Waiting for EAD sucks!

I'm sure we all agree - waiting for an EAD sucks. My husband Mahmoud is going bored out of his mind while waiting - he hasn't not worked in so long, so sitting at home is frustrating!

Our application (alongside the AOS documents) was received by USCIS on Sept 20. We did our biometrics on Oct 21. Still waiting to see ANY updates on our case - it hasn't changed at all! I've checked out people with similar timelines - looks like this is not unusual.

Anything we can do while waiting? We submitted an expedite request (company wants to hire him - thank God!) but it's frustrating to keep clicking "Refresh" on USCIS' website to no avail.

Seeking advice on keeping our sanity as well as anything else immigration-related that we can do to hopefully get the EAD soon!

Thx,

Sarah

I don't really have advice on how to make it go faster (sounds like you've done what you can there by requesting an expedite...) but has he tried volunteering? At least he'd be able to get out of the house. Sifa volunteered at a hospital and was able to get out, learn the bus system, meet people, etc. It was great! At least then it wouldn't be constantly sitting at home staring at the USCIS website :)

Ahh I am in excatly the same position - although I have no job offer yet, everyone keeps telling me to re apply when I have my card in hand. It is driving me nuts. In addition seems everything bar the occasional one calling me back about a job is commission only or a scam where you have to pay a set up cost. It is so demoralising.

Seems crazy that we have to wait so long to be productive! You would think that the US Government would want to encourage the people who do it the legal way to work so they can pay taxes etc.

I have heard many times on here though "you need to understand that a k-1 is not a work visa" which annoys me because at the end of the day the majority of people want and need to work to support them selves so that is a stupid comment lol!

Rant over, hope he gets his EAD soon :)

Looks like we're in the EXACT same position - and on a similar timeline! Mahmoud and I submitted his I-485/765 a week after you and got our biometrics appt a week after you as well. Keeping my fingers crossed for you and Mahmoud - we may be getting it around the same time!

And dude, yeah, K-1 is LIKE a work visa because who wants to marry someone who is unemployed and dependent? This is not practical - and you'd think the US gov't would do something to make it faster/easier for newlywed couples to get on their feet!

Mahmoud was volunteering on local campaign races in Sacramento so he got to learn about the community and its leaders. Very cool experience! ... But he's an engineer haha :)

Hopefully we get our EAD soon.. Hum diddly dum till then! :)

You said you submited your AOS around September 20th and you are complaining about not getting your EAD by now????? For your information the Current processing times is about 4 months from the day you submit your AOS, so as long as you are withing this time period, just count your blessing and be patient...:whistle:

Just an update - ALHAMDULILAH Mahmoud just got his EAD today! I'm going to start complaint threads all over VisaJourney about his Green Card now because apparently that is what worked :)

Thanks everyone for your support! He is counting his blessings - and will start work! :)

The USCIS website just updated - physical EAD still nowhere to be seen. I'm beginning to think our expedite letter from the company that wants to hire him may have helped quite a bit - looks like a lot of people are still waiting for theirs, too.

We're crossing out fingers for you!!

SM

Did they update the USCIS website or did it just arrive?

Happy for him but can't help but be disappointed that mine is still nowhere to be seen.

Hope your green card goes quick too
