Hello all patient & enduring VJ-ers!

I am curious to know about the job market in Pittsburgh, PA.

I've only visited briefly and mostly what I know is from what I've read.

From what I've read online, it is sluggish as turnovers are slow so there are very limited openings. Most jobs are situated in areas such as Philadelphia or King of Prussia.

I find this news rather daunting, as I would be giving up a 5 year career and reputation in the current country I live in (Malaysia). Friends and family had asked me what I would be working as once I am there. I often jest "flipping burgers". I've read the experiences of others here, and the good advice would be to :

  • obtain a part time job initially (helps to convince working eligibility prior to a Green Card)
  • state work eligibility in one's resume or cover letter
  • volunteer to build your network
  • search jobs in local newspapers

In case you are wondering what I do, I'm in Marketing Communication (& Web Design) for international brands from the F&B, Hospitality & Entertainment industry.

Please share your experiences.
