Hi guys, this is my first post here. However, I've looking for info. on this forum for a while.

Would you please help me out with some questions I have?

Currently, the DS-160 US visa application form has this fields:

Passport Number

Passport Book Number

National Identification Number

What exactly should I write there? My passport is from Colombia (the old one, not the new machine-readable passport), and from what I have read so far, this is the correct information (using examples):

Passport Number: CC12345678 (passport number exactly as it is shown in the passport, in the upper right corner of the photo page)

Passport Book Number: AA000000 (the number written is red on the inside front cover. it's the same that it's laser-perfored on each page)

National Identification Number: 12345678 (the cedula number, with no points or spaces)

BUT:

1) US embassy tells me (by email) that my passport number is THE SAME as my passport book number, and they both are AA000000. And that my national identification number is the same as my cedula number.

2) Colombian passport website tells me that my passport number is CC12345678 and that my passport book number is AA000000

3) A PDF guide from the US embassy website tells me that my passport number is the same as my cedula number (but it's not clear whether it's with or without the "CC" letters)

4) Other US embassies like the US embassy in Uruguay website says that you shouldn't write your national identification number unless it is shown in the passport, and now I0m wondering if the same apply in Colombia. My cedula number is not shown in my passport. I know, however, that it is being shown in the new colombian passports.

So... to summarize, everything is a mess!

based on your experience, what is the correct answer for those fields?

Any help would be really appreciated!

you're right, that's the information you need to fill out the form.

Thanks for your reply, yakad. Since this is not a paper form anymore, you can't bring to the interview empty forms to make corrections if needed.. it's only 1 chance now. I'm wishing everything is OK! :star:
