So today I got my EAD card!

Finally!

It just stings a little bit that it was issued on 02/11/2011 and I only got it today, as it was missing my biometrics.

And the biometric appointment was last week, after the congressman office had to ask about my case status.

Also did we get today the interview letter for MAy 16th...

Now we need to get our stuff for that together...

04/2006 - came to US as L1 employee

04/2010 - got married

11/2010 - submitted AOS package (I-130, I-485, I-765)

05/2011 - Welcome letter arrived in the mail

11/2017 - Filed for naturalization (Online Houston office)

11/2017 - Biometrics

06/2018 - Interview (passed)

06/2018 - Case approved notification

Yay!!!! Finally movement on your case. I wonder why it took so long to get your EAD. My husband didn't wait near as long as you, but we didn't get his EAD until about a week before interview. I never thought to look at the issue date. Anyway, it'll finally be here before you know it! Good luck getting your stuff together!

I had my interview today and it was very easy except I didn't think before I talked and I ended up being really rude to the IO, He was checking the accuracy of the copies and I was helping him finding the stamps in the passport, and he was like "you know where it is" and I said : No, but I can read! ( since on the copy you could see the number of the page in the passport...

I feel really bad because I didn't mean to be rude, I apologized when he gave me the approval letter... anyway I knew I was gonna mess up in some ways

Update on our case:

Today we had the interview for the AOS.

Our Interview was scheduled for 10:30 and we live about 25minutes away from the USCIS office. Knowing that things might be hard to find and since I am one of those that like to be well prepared I scheduled to leave our house at 9:30.

As a matter of fact, we had a hard time finding the building, as my GPS dropped us off at the other side of the highway. Nevertheless we did arrive 10minutes early, in order to wait till 11:20 to be called up.

After I spent a lot of time last week and the weekend to prepare for the interview all we now needed was a nice IO. In preparation for the Interview I put together these documents:

As per I-797C listing:

- I-797C

- I-693

- I-864 (and supporting documentation)

- Birth Certificate Tim (including translation)

- Birth Certificate Erin

- Divorce document Erin

- Certified marriage certificate

Supporting evidence of relationship:

- 2010 jointly filed tax return

- Joint car insurance (11-2010 to 05-2011)

- Joint car insurance (current)

- Health insurance (Tim dependent of Erin)

- Joint cell phone bill (Dec 2010)

- Former life insurance from Tim with Erin as beneficiary

- Life insurance from Erin with Tim as beneficiary

- Home owner insurance (current)

- Settlement statement of jointly owned house

- Statement from joint account (January 2011)

- Statement from joint account (April 2011)

- Copy of wedding invitation

- Contract for wedding cake

- Contract for wedding photographer

- Photo book : “Our first year together” (2007-2008)

- Photo book : “Erin’s 29th birthday” (2008)

- Photo book : “Tim’s 29th birthday” (2008)

- Photo book : “Trip to Germany ” (2009)

- Photo book : “Our wedding ” (2010)

- Photo book : “Visit from Tim’s son” (2010)

Other:

- Last 4 pay stubs Erin

- Letter of non-employment Siemens

- Passport Erin

- Passport Tim (incl. I-94)

- Original wedding invite

- Original wedding certificate

Also did I inquire about what to wear, knowing that being over and underdressed can leave a bad first impression.

Once we got called in the IO excused for the wait and she was friendly from the get go.

My wife and I were sworn in and afterwards the information on the previously provided documents was validated. This validation occurred by the IO asking my wife about information about me (full name, date of birth, place of birth) and vice versa.

Afterwards the IO went with me over the yes/no questions of the immigration documents and verified my parents’ names.

From there the IO lead into that we have been together quite a while as she did read on the cover letter we send in. So while my wife told the story how we met I started digging out the requested paperwork from my briefcase.

Since we had a multitude of photo books, we went through all of them with the IO. Afterwards she stated she would take whatever evidence of marriage we had into the file and make some copies of the photo books.

And that was basically it. A friendly hone hour conversation.

The IO mentioned that she will need to go through the forms in the case to verify certain things, but as of today nothing that raises her concerns had come up. In about 30 to 60 days she will be able to finalize the case.

Conclusion:

Write a good cover letter when initially submitting your case

Bring original and copies of every important document (birth certificate, marriage license, divorce documents)

Be nice and friendly

Be organized

Dress Business (not Business Casual, nor Business Formal)

04/2006 - came to US as L1 employee
