Yep, nothing is free. There is a price to pay for everything.

The difference is not so much what you pay, as there is always something to pay, whether it's private insurance, or (in the UK) National Insurance. You always pay for your health coverage.

The difference is that in the USA, getting treated for illness, or injury can bankrupt you.

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

Not for me. I have excellent coverage and live near what is probably the best medical complex in the world.good.gif

we have pretty good coverage too but back in the spring I was sick and we paid out about 600 to 800 dollars in copays and bloodwork etc in about 3 months... I know without insurance it would have cost a lot more but that still is a lot of money for us..

:secret: Obviously he means the Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN. That 'luckytxn' thing is just a cover-story.

Obviously you mean the: University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. :secret:

Though Mayo is right up there as well.

It's just sad really that the average yank who is beating on against the European, Canadian, Australian approach to running a country, in all honestly could not even dream of the life - the Q.O.L - the average Joe equivalents are actually living there.

Even the rightest of the right I know in various countries would never endorse teaparty / libertarian style tax policies or system of government - not one. In fact, this is the first point anyone who has a clued up from abroad makes when it comes to discussing how the US. For example, "hey any bridges fallen down today" followed by laughter.

That is true, but then that is part of what makes America so great...we don't follow the rest of the world. No other nation has a Constitution such as ours with such great guarantees. If you are so miserable here go home, it's a simple process, really. Flights depart daily.

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

Great? You have not been "great" in over 30 years. You rank almost next to last in almost every international ranking.

No offense, but no other nation wants your Constitution or your failed logic.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

That's because no other nation has the fortitude to give such freedom to their citizens.

To be fair there are many very good hospitals in different parts of the country but usually there is just one or two in a place and they are good but as the wiki showed they started many decades ago with this plan on making this enormous complex home to many top hospitals and schools and such in one big area that feed off of each other. It has been world leading in many areas of medical and research. It is pretty vast but does have several medical hospitals in that one area. In fact it is getting so large that they are now having to move out of the Houston Medical complex and find other areas nearby to build. Many people come from all over the world for treatment for many different ailments.
