Was wondering. I used to go to Montreal often and for long periods of time. I remember everyone without fail used to tell me about their FREE health care. Do they still say that and think this way? I used to try to explain that it wasn't free but they couldn't seem to grasp that reasoning.blink.gif

Oh we know its not free but we also dont worry about having no healthcare. Everything comes with a price .... even what you have here in the US.

Then surely a genius like yourself would realize you pay 2.5 to 3 times more that what everyone else does, yet do not deliver any better quality, nor deliver it to all. Also ranked last when the actual quality and speed is directly compared to these socialists.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I lived in Montreal for many years and I can say you have some exaggerations. Lol, are u a politician? In fact my wife and I have discussed moving back to that horrid country one day in the future.:P

I can say a lot of things also. So what? You didn;t mention what those exaggerations may be, I was pretty specific, maybe you could be also.

Gary, I think it's safe that when it comes to politics, you are the most irrational of them all here.

You get it and are extremely logical regarding illegal immigration, just not anything else.

It's just sad really that the average yank who is beating on against the European, Canadian, Australian approach to running a country, in all honestly could not even dream of the life - the Q.O.L - the average Joe equivalents are actually living there.

Even the rightest of the right I know in various countries would never endorse teaparty / libertarian style tax policies or system of government - not one. In fact, this is the first point anyone who has a clued up from abroad makes when it comes to discussing how the US. For example, "hey any bridges fallen down today" followed by laughter.

It's even sadder that someone who is supposedly married to an American woman spends all of his time bashing her country. Must be compensating for something.

How is this for irrational, I DONT WANT TO PAY FOR YOUR HOUSE PAYMENT! I DONT WANT TO PAY FOR YOUR MEDICAL CARE!

IF I WANT EITHER OF THESE , I will either sign on the dotted line, or purchase for myself!

Some people dont like paying for other peoples mistakes, were not all as SOCIAL as you would like us to be.

Canadians KNOW it isn't free. And they KNOW it really isn't even health care. Any attempt to say otherwise is like Aussies boasting about their country. Examples...

Canadians pay for "health Insurance" on their motor vehicle registration and it goes up every year and they flip out over it. It is outrageous for motorcycles. This is extra insurance they pay for just to cover the cost of medical expenses related to car accidents.

Canadians in Quebec pay a combined GST and PST of 15%. The Provincial tax is assessed on the federal tax. You pay sales tax on a sales tax. When the GST was reduced 3 years ago, Quebec IMMEDIATELY increased their provincial tax by the exact amount the GST was reduced. Provinces pay for health care, not the Federal Government. A pair of shoes at Payless Shoe Source (for example as these stores operate in Quebec and Vermont) will be 25% higher in Quebec due to the VAT than in Vermont. That is the "sticker price". And that is when the $ is at PAR as it roughly is right now. They then pay the 15% on TOP of that. In Vermont the shoes are 25% cheaper AND there is -0- sales tax, so the same shoes end up being 40% less expensive in a store that is 30-45 minutes drive away. Do you think the Quebecois do not notice this? They are Canadian, they are not stupid. Th emall in Plattsburgh NY and Burlington VT are FULL of Quebec license plates every day. Get over it Sly Wolf, Canadians KNOW what it costs and they RUN from it every day.

Our medical clinics are full of cars from Quebec. Sit in the waiting romm at MY doctor's office and you will listen to conversations in French all around you. Hmm. Where could THEY be from? France, perhaps? Ask them. whay are you here, don;t you have FREE healthcare? They laugh. "Yes, of course, bien sur! And I have to wait more than one year for_________________ (choose medical service) so I drive here and receive it today" The hottest job benefit in Montreal is a company that offers private medical insurance!

Seriously, really, think about this...the entire state of Vermont has a population that is 1/4 that of the Island of Montreal yet we have 8 times the locations for MRIs, JUST in Burlington. Why do you suppose that is? We have about the most enormous medical facility I have ever seen in Burlington. Population, 50,000. Huh? The entire county, Chittenden, has a population of 150,000 people and the hospital is designed to serve a community of more than a million! They do 50,000 heart catherizations each year! 50,000! 1000 per WEEK! That is 10% of the population of Vermont every year. Do you really think that 10% of Vermonters have an angiogram...every YEAR? I had an angiogram there, it is like the angiogram factory! I couldn't believe it. Medical staff that is bi-lingual (and I do not mean Spanish) is preferred.

Canadians KNOW their system is horrendously expensive and they try to escape it any way they can. They buy boats in the US and register them and keep them in Marinas here so they never pay Canadian tax on them. Lake Champlain is taken over by the "Quebec Navy" every weekend! They KNOW their medical system is poor in delivering and come here as a "safety valve" that basically keeps their system from total collapse.

Doctors in Montreal usually have offices also in Ottawa. They have maximum limits they can earn, each by the Provinces. Since Ottawa is close and Ontario has a higher limit, they have an office in both and double dip. Unfortunately it means that doctor is in Montreal only two days per week and the Quebecois cannot follw him to his office in Ottawa because then Ontario would be stuck with the bill. They CAN however, go to Vermont or New York. (There is also a huge hospital in Plattsburgh, NY) Doctors in Canada KNOW the system is not free.

Sly wolf will say I am exagerating and let it go at that. Heracles will say he has an article that says other wise but won;t post it, now or ever.

But there it is, some specific answers to your question and the others are free to pick it apart and state exactly where I am wrong or have said something inaccurate.

Again, thank you to our good Canadian neighbors who contribute so much to our economy.

When did you start paying for these? Who do you make the check out to?

My friends call me "Cash". That will do.

I do find it highly ironic that tea party sentiment will likely make John Boehner, one of Tarp's biggest cheerleaders, Speaker of the House by tomorrow. Yep, everything will be different then.

You heard it here first. Boehner will not be the Speaker tomorrow or ever. The Tea Party is not at all impressed by Boehner and the sheer number of Freshmen Republicans will make it unlikely he will receive that post in JANUARY.

If I am wrong, you get to ridicule me later.

Yes, let's listen to the opinion of Gary over actual research and studies.

U.S. scores dead last again in healthcare study

Wed Jun 23, 2010 4:48pm EDT

(Reuters) - Americans spend twice as much as residents of other developed countries on healthcare, but get lower quality, less efficiency and have the least equitable system, according to a report released on Wednesday.

The United States ranked last when compared to six other countries -- Britain, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand, the Commonwealth Fund report found.

How does any of that address what I answered? And how does any of that address why so many Quebecois are in Vermont right now for health care.

Discuss.

I think I'll take actual data over your opinion of who comes to use what any-day.

Yeah, strange dicotomy, eh? I am "extremely logical" if you have enough sense to agree with me on one thing, but irrational when you do not have enough sense to agree with me on other things.

You say I am the most irrational BECAUSE I am RATIONAL and I am able to present logical arguments without hurling personal insults which makes me EFFECTIVE in presenting a point. THAT is what you don't like.

at any rate...as we speak

DEMS ARE LOSING!

Great response. Thanks.

No what I said is that you are rational on illegal immigration but bastshit crazy regarding everything else. A quintessential libertarian.

You start the innuendo insults a few weeks back, I have just started to play along.
