Why are people here so irrational about the election?

It's just sad really that the average yank who is beating on against the European, Canadian, Australian approach to running a country, in all honestly could not even dream of the life - the Q.O.L - the average Joe equivalents are actually living there.

Even the rightest of the right I know in various countries would never endorse teaparty / libertarian style tax policies or system of government - not one.

Article?

I am sure you are all broken up over it. Too bad, so sad.

You and the other socialists are going to have you @sses handed to you today. Be proud of it. Being a good loser is proof you are a Socialist.

I am? The Aussie dollar is now worth more than the US. I could probably sell one house and buy Vermont.

So-called socialist have won dude. The war is over and libertarians / teaparty types had their azz handed to them.

China rising and killing it is the ultimate insult to injury.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

In fact, this is the first point anyone who has a clued up from abroad makes when it comes to discussing how the US. For example, "hey any bridges fallen down today" followed by laughter.

All of those political ads we have been subject to say nothing and are totally unconstructive. I don't find any of them have anything new to offer. I get the impression that the US is becoming a very divided nation.

Historically, these levels of differences have only ended up in civil war. I was driving through DC's ghettos yesterday and thought to myself, both parties have failed these homeless people.

  • Republicans do not want to help them and think someone homeless should magically pull up their bootstraps. [insert finger in ears, label everyone else socialist.]
  • Dems assume the best way to help this guy is ignore what the rest of the first world does and just let more illegal aliens into the country. [insert finger in ears, label everyone else anti-brown / xenophobe. Also claim college is the answer]

While Americans play these idiotic games [no synonymous with America], these people are the real victims, with no logical chance of ever improving their life. Best things these people can do is get their azz to Canada or Australia, for a real opportunity in life.

Yes, under "Obama the Uniter" it has become very divided. We will change that. TODAY. Be a proud Socialist!

I wish we could export our poor and homeless to Canada or Australia - that would be awesome.

It isn't?

It should not be. Anyone [legal] who works in a first world country, should earn a livable salary.

I saw an interesting fact the other day. Back in 1928, the top 1% of the US earned something about 24% of the wealth. In the 50/60, this dropped to 8%. As of 2009, this is back to 28%.

I wish we could export our poor and homeless to Canada or Australia - that would be awesome.

Rest assured, we'd still be able to purchase property in Manhattan, like we are shopping for potatoes at wholefoods.

Election means nothing to me, as I am just a PR. What does affect me though is the dollar, as I will lose a lot when I move back to AUS.

Are YOU in Canada or Australia?

I used to live in Montreal. I fail to see any difference in lifestyle or way of life. I go to Canada very often, Montreal is the nearest city to my home. Except for higher taxes and gas prices it is pretty much identical. There is more cultural difference between Vermont and South Carolina than there is between Vermont and Canada. Take a walk down Sherbrooke Ouest and tell me what is different from Michigan Ave. How is Home Depot different? McDonalds? Oh yeah, Tim Hortons! I almost forgot. Yeah, lunch is a sandwich, drink and...DONUT! I am hooked on Viande feu though, I admit to a terrible weakness for that.

Canadians flood into Vermont for health care and to go shopping and avoid the high taxes (for health care) there. And higher prices in general on everything. They have a VAT and tax clothes and shoes...we don't. One hears French spoken as often as English in our shops. French is as commonly spoken here as Spanish in El Paso or Brownsville. The airport is full of Quebec and even Ontario license plates (Ottawa isn't far away) because it is FAR cheaper to drive to Burlington and jump on a plane to any destination in the US than to fly out of Montreal. Check out prices of tickets from Montreal to Florida vs. Burlington to Florida, for example. You wouldn't drive an hour to save that much money? even though I live close to Montreal and I always check airfares from there when going overseas, it is cheaper for me to drive 5 hours to New York and fly from there, even cheaper to fly AND pay for parking or fly from Burlington. It is simply outrageous how much more it is to fly from Montreal. You can fly to Burlington, rent a car for a week and STILL save money compared to flying into Montreal.

whatever. There it is. Canada is a good place to live because most people live within a half day drive of the USA and can escape the health care sysytem and high taxes when they want. There are no visas needed and travel between the countries is easy. I wait longer to pay a toll on the NY turnpike. Canada is 4000 miles wide and 100 miles deep and nearly half the population is located between Montreal and Toronto, just a morning's drive apart.

Was wondering. I used to go to Montreal often and for long periods of time. I remember everyone without fail used to tell me about their FREE health care. Do they still say that and think this way? I used to try to explain that it wasn't free but they couldn't seem to grasp that reasoning.blink.gif
