I am s November filer and after a long RFE process I finally received my EAD on Friday (with my middle name mispelled though :/ ). I applied for SSN that same day.

Question: do some people get approved for AOS with no interview? If so, under what circumstances?

I just got my green card today  without an interview. My case was transfered to the CSC and I only sent the documentation I was required to. No clue why some people get interviews while others don't, but I'm glad we didn't have one! Good luck to you.

Did you put the middle 2 names as your desired name on your AOS application? The reason I'm asking is that my birth certificate and canadian passport do not have Joyce as first name but my HKID has. I put Joyce as first name on AOS application. I applied for a legal name change but the hearing date is not till May. My EAD and AP both have my desired name so I'm hoping my GC would have the same name too.

The middle 2 names are on all my existing documents and that what i used on the forms…I am not certain if the green card would include all the names listed on my birth certificate…or just the first name.

Argghh….Have my fingers crossed..still no news on the green card.. :crying:

Congrats on the latest approvals.

I took a variety of different pieces of evidence, the only ones the IO took were our joint lease, the latest month of our joint bank account, a credit card statement showing me by name as an additional card holder and the copies of photos. He asked who the people in the pics were (MIL's family at Christmas dinner and friends/ family at the wedding) and wanted to know when the account had been opened (8 months before we got engaged, because it was easier and cheaper to pay dollars into a US account during vacations than use a foreign card in the ATM) and wanted statements going back that far. I didn't have any but he was OK about it.

He asked my K-2 daughter about school and whether she does any sports. The entire experience was very laid back and casual, with both Ry and my daughter laughing when the IO asked me if I had ever tortured anyone... lol He asked Ry if he's always lived in Tucson, and we then went on to disagree about how old he was when he moved here (he claimed 2, I said he wasn't even 1 yet... and later his mom confirmed I'm right lol) which entertained the IO no end and pretty much demonstrated the bonafide nature of our relationship.

I've spent a little bit of time and effort getting my name on a couple of bills, and we also applied for a Best Buy card with me as a secondary account holder, which should start building my rating and also adds to the things we can collect over the next few years for our ROC. I'm planning on doing quarterly copies of bills between now and our ROC, so I'm not having to scramble around for evidence documentation when the time comes.

Timeline Summary:

  • 3 weeks later...

Had my interview last Thursday and to say it was a breeze would be an understatement. The lady was lovely and it was basically a chat. She only really asked us how met and about the travelling back and forth. Alot of convo about teenagers (my daughter) and their musical "tastes" lol

I took quite a bit of evidence and she didn't even look at any of it. I was like "can you just look at something? Take something?!" she said I had so much in my file already there was no need. Finally, she gave in and said if you have wedding pictures I'll look at those (yay). So she looked at maybe two and complimented my dress and that was it.

Our appointment was for 10:15 (well, my daughter was 10:15 and I had 11:00). We got there at 9.35. At reception at 9.40 and out the door at 10.15.

I'll do a review shortly...

Good luck CQ & CS - it is so straightforward :)

My wife received her Green Card in the mail yesterday! What a wonderful journey! So happy and we are looking forward to being able to visit her family now! Bought tickets to the Philippines for August 21st!

Just wanted to say Thank you to all the people here on VJ that helped us through this journey. We still have to remove the conditions in 2 years, so the journey isn't quite over yet :D But still a huge accomplishment :-)

Thanks!

Ben and Cathrina
