My fiancee went to her interview in London UK on July 29th (last summer) and the medical the day before. Due to the medical being done right before and there were things which the doctor wanted addressed the K1 visa could not be issued at that time. As far as I know, she went through the embassy interview etc successfully, they reviewed the application, financials etc and conditionally aproved the K1 visa - even placing a "welcome to America" stamp on it. The K1 was held pending the medical results which needed some things done. During August and September my fiance worked on getting the embassy doctor the things she requested including vaccinations, some background information, and some blood tests for her son, etc. The last of all that was submitted in early October and she got an email finally about 2 weeks ago finally stating that the medical report had been received and final review.

So far no word, no courier info stating the Visa has been sent. People who were interviewed after we got word that the medical info was logged in have since gotten their K1's and we are still waiting? The doctor even phoned my fiancee when the last of the stuff was in and said she was happy. It looks like there isn't any reason the embassy shouldn't send the K1 on. Is there anything I can do stateside to check on this? Or is it normal for cases where medical info takes a couple months for the visa to take a little longer to get through the system than if you took care of everything straight forward while down there?

We would like to get on with our lives!

They followed the normal process, meaning they had all the necessary medical information available when the medical was conducted and therefore didn't have the visa processing process held up due to delays in the medical.

No, maybe email them and inquire, politely

Or is it normal for cases where medical info takes a couple months for the visa to take a little longer to get through the system than if you took care of everything straight forward while down there?

Normally the applicant has all the necessary medical history, etc with them when they go to the medical and then it may take one day to obtain the sealed envelope. Yours took months, so no reason to think that it is a normal process. They probably set your file aside and are taking care of the normal files instead. Just be patient.

Baron said it a bit more harshly than was necessary, but it's factually correct. It does no good to compare your timeline any longer with basic cases. 2 weeks does not seem out of normal for the UK embassy. It doesn't hurt to call, and I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to - just to see if you could shake it loose.

Also, check with DOS. They can see if the visa is printed, etc.

Waiting is hard, especially when you don't know how long it might last, but hang in there!

No worries, I was just after a reality check to see if this was normal. Mainly once the medical end was satified (all be it after a several months) and the medical report received, it appears it can take a little longer to get those visas printed and out the door vs the plain vanilla process where its all done and dusted the same week. Right now we probably are with in the range of time so another week or two should be allowed so patience is the by word.

As it is we've had some things needing done on both our ends so even though the process has been lengthy its worked out timing wise ok. But all that being true, we are anxious to move on with things! =)

Thanks.

Update: As it turns out my fiance - Twinkles - has just check the courier website and it now finally shows a delilvery date so this means the K1 Visa is approved and on its way to her house right? Whoo hoo. A long process starting with the application October 2009 and finally approved and sent just over 12 months later. Yay! I've hear the average wait is about 8 months for those with straightforward processes. In our case the medical end took a few extra months, and much the extra time was due to the NHS being the slow institution that it is but hey, I guess you get what you pay for. Its cheap or free but you have to have the patience of Job.

So now we can begin to make more specific plans.
