Hi!

I had a question regarding the port of entry in USA.

If my spouse comes to USA for the first time in her life on a CR1 imigration visa, is it ok to first land on a different airport since the direct flight is to New york or New Jersey and then a local flight brings to the air port which is near to my residence? Or should one only come to the international air port which is near to my residence? I mean if the flight comes from india to New york or New Jersey and from there ANOTHER flight with out breaking the journey brings to a near by international air port say in Pensylvania or Maryland or North Carolina for that matter.

Please inform if there is a rule that one should come close to the near by air port from the person who files the CR1.

Your spouse can enter the USA at any POE. Just keep in mind that the process may take a while or it may not. I would recommend having at least three hours for a connecting flight just in case. Also keep in mind that your spouse will go thru customs at the POE which requires gathering up the baggage, going thru customs, and then re-checking the baggage. This is why I am limiting my fiancee's POE to where I live as the other choices involve a very short lay-over in Chicago and we have not had much success with making it to the planes or the baggage making it.

It is up to you how you want to handle this, but just leave enough time for the POE immigration process and customs and you will be just fine.

POE can be to any U.S. airport (or it's territories). You could live in California and if her flight first lands at JFK in NYC then her POE would be JFK. There is no rule.
