You can. They don´t spell it out completely at the State Department website (http://travel.state.gov/passport/hurry/hurry_831.html) but you can.

What you need is the following:

- All the docs you need anyway to apply for a passport the first time.

- To go to the DC office (maybe other ones that print passports as well but the only one I´ve seen stated for sure is the DC office), having made appointment to go there beforehand.

- To have, on the date of the appoinment, a travel itinerary (booked ticket) or a letter from employer showing that you need to travel within 14 days.

- To pay the expedite fee.

- To be willing to spend a whole day waiting for your passport. Literally waiting.

I´m wrapping up work in TX on the 12th and am planning to fly to DC that evening from DFW. The following morning I´ll show up at the Icelandic embassy and renew my passport (that would otherwise expire in October) and then at the state department at 11:30.

In the afternoon/evening I´ll drive back home. (5 hour drive)

3 days later I´ll travel.

Congratulations again. just curious, were you able to get that passport the same day for the DC regional passport agency??? only asking as i may need to do the same,whenever i am sworn in. had to pay to change flight once already as i do want to travel with the blue eagle passport and not have to be mindful of overstaying out of the country.

Updated on my wife interview.

It was almost a happiest day ever but it was not. She has to come back for a re-interview. She passed all reading/writing part of the test but somehow when the officer asked her about something to the effect of how did you meet your spouse" or somthing similar she wasn't able to answer, Officer said wait right here, I'll be back.

By the way, my wife has limited communication with outside world beyond her next door neighbor.

when Mr Officer return after consulting with his upper, he told my wife to come back in 2 months for a re-interview of the Understanding English...unbelieveble.

Now I am scramble to prepare her for the ultimate interview.

I guess lesson learned USCIS can failed you for not understanding the a few questions they throw at you. and conclude that the applicant does not understand enough to naturalized.

Officer did not ask even on piece of evidences she brouht along except for the green card.

Passed and oath at 2pm. They had a hard time locating her birth certificate due to her married name being different. I was sweating for 40 minutes.

What relief.. I am imaging now I could be in your situation. That interview messed us up the entire day. I couldn't wake up this morning for work..almost wake up late for work.

My wife could have that certificate in here hand yesterday too if wasn't that additinal questions the officer was asking.

The officer has come out to tall with us twice. Once because he forgot to collect her 10 year gc and the second time because she cam not use her Thai family name as her middle name. If we wanted to keep that it would have delayed her oath for a month. I opted for the oath today and change it in the court later maybe.

Finished. I was more nervous than my wife and I'm completely exhausted but happy to be done!

I was I had the papers stated above, nothing fancy just a printout of the itineraries from my Gmail account.

It was very simple and painless. I had made an appointment at the DC passport agency, for the purposes of getting a passport within 14 days of travelling.

My appointment was at 11:30 but I was there at 11:00. I went through the security, checked in, handed my paper bundle and credit card to a lady in a booth and then she told me to come back at 14:00. I was out of there at 11:20 or so.

To kill some time I went and visited the Air and Space Museum, headed back at around 14:00 and was there about a quarter later. The passport was ready and I headed down I-95 back to NC.

Couldn't have been easier. 2.5 hours to get your first passport in a behemoth like the US is not shabby at all.

Well, I haven't been on here to update in a while, but absolutely nothing has happened since my interview. It's been 2 months now and I haven't seen any updates online, haven't received an oath letter or anything! I called USCIS today and all they did was read exactly what's online about getting an interview letter, if I asked a question, he would just repeat what he already said. I am now convinced that they train their phone operators in the best ways to annoy the customers!

Anyone have any experience waiting so long for an oath letter?

Hey TN_Canadian, Any news from your side on the Oath? gen& paul (january filling post) got their Oath letter in Greenvile,TN May 11. Theirs interview was March 30,11,and I think January filling. Ok just wondering,and I hope very soon. They told my spouse on April 7 that it will take 3 months. We will see.

correct Gen/Paul was a january Filer like myself. I should get my Oath for May 19, 2011 in Nashville.
