i'm recently back from the phillipines where i married my wife. we are now looking to start the visa process. we figured that the CR-1/IR-1 process is the route we are going. going off the information from visa journey website i've gathered up the required documentation for this process. the USCIS website lists another form I-485 as a form to be processed along with the other forms but visa journey didn't list this form.

is this form required to process the CR-1/IR-1 visa?

I-485 is not required with the IR-1/CR-1 visa. Carefully read the following guides:

http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/EZGuideSpouse

http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/How_to_bring_your_foreign_spouse_to_live_in_the_US

For the first step of initially filing the petition, the only forms you'll need is the I-130, 2x G-325A, and the optional G-1145.

Excellent response given by Saylin, only I-485 is necessary for those spouses legally in the US looking to adjust status. Since this

is not the case for you, you do not require the I-485. Please familiarize yourself with the guides and I-130 instructions before filing

GOod luck

thanks for your help.

i've read them & most makes sense to me but still uncertain about if i'm filling the right forms out correctly. would it be helpful if i send the I-864 affidavit of support with all the documentation now?

No, do not send the I-864. That's required at another stage once your I-130 is approved at USCIS. Just send in what's required for the first part, do not worry yet about sending in additional forms and documents. Read the guides over and over until you know what you must send in.
