Sheila Jackson Lee wants DOJ to monitor tea partiers at polls

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) is asking the Department of Justice to investigate whether tea party groups are intimidating black and Hispanic voters in her district.

Jackson Lee has asked Attorney General Eric Holder to send poll monitors to her district on Nov. 2 to make sure the King Street Patriots, a local conservative voter turnout and tea party group, aren’t stopping people from voting.

“Many of these incidents of voter intimidation have been occurring in predominately minority neighborhoods and have been directed at African-Americans and Latinos,” she said in the letter. “It is unconscionable to think that anyone would deliberately employ the use of such forceful and intimidating tactics in 2010 to undermine the fundamental, constitutional right to vote.”

“I urge you to order an immediate investigation into these incidents and call for the Department of Justice to send poll monitors to Harris County immediately to ensure a safe and neutral voting environment during the Nov. 2 election,” Jackson Lee wrote.

Lee says the tea party group is sending in poll watchers who have been trained to aggressively monitor voters by standing directly behind them.

The King Street Patriots have also gone after Jackson Lee, saying Jackson Lee is asking for votes right outside polling places. They’re now inviting the Justice Department to come to its poll watching training meetings, saying they have nothing to hide.

The local news station Channel 13 ABC here in Houston, which is where Lee's district is located, did a story on these allegations and found there was no evidence of wrongdoing. Lee wasn't mentioned in the story, nor was the Tea Party. The story was about volunteer poll watchers.

Gerrymandering is a two edged sword. It does allow unqualified total nut jobs to get elected because they are black (or whatever, black in Jackson-Lee's case) but at the same time, NONE of these people have any clout in Washington. They are nothing but a big mouth and most times when she opens it, she changes feet.

Gerrymandering, originally designed to make seats safe for a PARTY, not a race, has had the effect of negating black influence in the house. Tiny Gerrymandered "Black areas" end up with a black representative and much larger areas end up with a white representative. Black voters end up represented by unqualified, bumbling idiots for the most part and white politicians can pretty much ignore black demands because blacks have their own Representative and black populations in their districts are very small. Just as in any other time when you try to give advantage to people that have not earned it...it doesn't work. The entire "balck caucus" is virtually powerless, even as a group. Their so-called "friends", the Democrats have done to them what they have always done to blacks..."Here you are, here is you OWN place right over here, yeah, that's it...stay over there and play nicely...all 12 of you." They do it every time. It is amazing a black will even vote for a Democrat anymore. An example is that while there are no black Senators right now, the Senate gives far more consideration to black issues than does the house. The White Senators running the show in the Senate NEED black votes. The white Represetatives running the show in the House do not.

It isn't that Jackson-Lee couldn't survive diversity, she couldn't survive an intelligent challenge from anyone that was black.

Vehemently agree with everything but this last quote. Sheila Jackson-"Me" was challenged in the Dimmo primary by a very intelligent, well-spoken black dude, who -- despite the hopes of more than a few -- unfortunately lost. Therefore, we're saddled with her again (not my District, thankfully).

One undisputed reality is that if you try to come between the CongresswoMAAAAAAAAAN and a television camera, your life is genuinely in danger.

Well, I have to admit, THAT is discouraging.

It always amazes me that the party that puts the blacks on the reservation to contain them right where they want them is the party they vote for. The KKK never went away, they just got wised up. Sheeesh.
