Hi Guys,

I just got an email that I got an RFE for my I-485. I tied contacting USCIS on the number given in the email, but it just goes around and around with automated prompts and explanations.

Does anyone have a good number for USCIS, or know which prompts I should chose to get through to a human?

"If you receive a request for evidence and have questions about what you need to submit, you may call our National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283."

Thanks!

Agreed. If you're calling to find out what it's about they will tell you to wait for the letter because they won't have ANY idea what the RFE is for.

If it's not for the RFE, honestly, that's the number. I've never called it myself but people talk about the idiotic "drones" that answer the phones so there must be an option in there somewhere.

Well you just have to be patient like the rest of us were and to be honest if its just a few things does not take long to get them together. I had an rfe got the papers together a matter of printing off on the pc and sent express post next day so chill it will be ok. No big deal

I just got off the phone with a customer service rep. They couldn't tell me anything. :(

I am patient. This is the first time I've called USCIS. I was just hoping to get some information. If you look at my timeline you can see that I am patient and have been going through the procedures properly since the very beginning.

Thank you.

No advice really, just support...I hated waiting for that dang RFE!! It will get to you soon though - ours took less than a week from the email to getting the letter in the mail. I hope it's nothing major!

Looking at your timeline information, I bet it is an RFE for I-693 medical form.. Assuming you are Canadian like me...you will probably need a second MMR shot (USA wants a current shot not just the one we had at 5 to go to school. Yes it is dumb but that is my guess. Sorry!!

This may be it. It's actually my husband who is the Canadian, so I am not sure what shots he had and when for his MMR. I would have thought this was taken care of through the K-1 Visa process. Did you do a fiance Visa first?

It should be - if all of the immunizations are marked complete on the immunization form then you SHOULD be good. However I've seen a lot of people - including my husband! - get RFEs for medicals despite turning in immunization transcriptions, etc. and the fact that the complete exam should be with USCIS from the brown envelope you turn over to customs. I guess they are losing them, or they are somehow not getting connected with the file...? Who knows. We ended up having to re-do the entire medical even though he had the medical exam for K-1 done in December last year. Frustrating.

I came in on K3 which does the same medical as K1 - I also did it in Toronto. Because Canada doesn't require a 'new' MMR shot they will mark it complete or incomplete not age appropriate columns. Either way it appears some, not all people get asked for the I-693...

If that is the case ALL you need to do is go to a civil surgeon with the Vaccine copy from Canada and they will tell you if he needs it...You can do this before you receive letter but don't pay ANYTHING until you are sure that is what he needs:) If it is he will need to pay for MMR shot from anywhere get a piece of paper that says he now has it then go to a civil surgeon and then pay for transcribing of the vaccination report. We paid $10 in Denver and I got my shot for free but I hear they are about $60-85.

Hope that helps :)

Pay close attention to the RFE wording though. In our case we did go to a civil surgeon, get all vaccines up to date, turned in the I-693 vaccination history all checked "complete" when we originally filed the AOS and we still got an RFE because they misplaced the overseas medical. Our RFE specifically said that the vaccination history was received, it was the REST of the medical they were missing. So don't assume anything.
