N/A vs None

Hey everyone! Quick question before I send out my husband's N400 this weekend....

I've completed the form by typing in the answers and now that's printed I'm checking it over and I read the directions say to write N/A or None where appropriate. For example, we don't have any children and he doesn't have a criminal record. I check the boxes NO, do I still need to write N/A all over the application?

I checked no to children and no to name change and then just wrote N/A once. Is this ok? I don't want it to look like we have children named None.

Basically, I wrote N/A when necessary, but don't want to overdue it because I've already checked the NO box.

I personally would put N/a in every spot that you don't have something to write so that at least the person looking at it knows that you didn't accidentally skip a section. They might RFE if they think you missed information. However, I don't think they are going to RFE for writing N/A on things that don't apply to you. I don't know what the official answer is on what is necessary though.

I went back and put more N/As in so that they know that I didn't skip anything (like you said). It's better to CYA I'm sure.

We basically followed the Example Form for the N-400 here on VJ; and if there was a 'No' check-box, we didn't put anything in the lines (like 8. Affiliations). Worked because the interview was approved and Oath Ceremony coming up!

Awesome! That's what my husband's application looks like , and it's nice to hear from someone who has been approved. Thanks. He'll get his pictures taken tomorrow and it'll be in the mail by Saturday.

I remember you too . We're actually only applying for citizenship now because I'm looking for a job abroad and I want to make sure my husband can return to the U.S. when he wants to without having to worry about residency requirements or visas. But at the same time, the more I think about it, the better I think it is for him to be an American citizen and for my husband, and my future children's father to be American.
