Hi

I had my interview today and I have been told by the officer that my green card has been approved and i will receive it in mail in about two weeks time. She also stamped my passport with a red stamp stating some thing like " UPON ENDORSEMENT SERVES AS TEMPORARY I551 EVIDENCING PERMANENT RESIDENCY FOR 1 YEAR"

and then there is an issue date which is obviously for today 10/28/2010 and then EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZED UNTILL 10/28/2010.

My question is that why is the EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZED VALID until today ? is it a mistake? did she tried to write 2011 rather than 2010 and by mistake she wrote same todays date again.

She also did not ask me to surrender my EAD (I-765) Card.....

So I am a bit confused......

Plus can i also ask that the red stamp she placed on my passport means what? can i travel on that stamp?

The stamp is a temporary greencard which you should be able to travel on and work under. As a permanent resident you do not need any additional permission to work, the residency suffices.

I suspect she meant to write valid until 12/28/2010 and wrote the wrong month. They stamped my I-551 in my passport with an expiry of two months from the interview. You'll probably get the green card within 10 days, so unless you plan to start a job or travel in the next month, I wouldn't worry about it.

Congrats for your Green Card!!!The Green card would authorize you to live and work in US, don't worry about EAD as you don't need it anymore.

The Green Card, official named I-551, comes in various forms. One of the is the actual card, now green again, and another one is a stamp in your passport.

The Green Card invalidates any visa and it also invalidates the EAD. It's the joker in the card game you're playing.

Now you are a lawful permanent resident, a Green Card holder, and as such you are authorized to live and work in the US at your heart's desire. You are also authorized to travel (again). Basically, you now DO HAVE a Green Card already. The actual card will arrive in the mailbox in about 7 to 11 days in a plain envelope that looks like spam. Don't throw it away!
