Embassy Interview

My stepchildren had an interview at the embassy last week. Their mother was told that they need a copy of my husband's green card and that my income is not sufficient and we need a cosponsor.

I was very frustrated at this because

1) the green card copy is not mentioned ANYWHERE in the requested documents. I received the packet 4 letter that stated that everything that was needed was sent in, except for the embassy stuff (photos and medical)

and

2) I sent in proof of income that was over the required amount for my household size. If my income was not sufficient, shouldn't a cosponsor have been required at the NVC stage?

I have emailed the embassy to try to get it directly from them whatever they told the children's mother. I suppose I'll hear back from them by early next week.

Has anyone ever heard of the request for the copy of the green card? If they had listed it as a required document, I would have sent it in. It's frustrating that they only decided they wanted it at the interview.

I am sorry about the delay of the process. Consulate, generally should not " worry about the income" as NVC determines all of these things before the case is complete. You might try to call them and talk to them about it.

Did they ask any specific questions to the kids?

Inpart Yes... The NVC ensure the documents are received... at times they will RFE if the income is not where is should be... sometimes they will go ahead and send it to the COnsulate...

THE CONSULATE.. makes THE final decision so they are "Always" checkiing this part... and believe you will be re-scheduled (blue slipped or the respective color) if the income does not qualify for the househould.

Thanks for the response. I just wish they had asked for it with all of the other paperwork instead of delaying things at the interview stage.

No, calling them won't do. The embassy website says they don't respond to visa inquiries by phone. Besides, I can't imagine the cost, with hold times, getting to the right department, the right person, etc. I emailed them Monday, I'm still waiting on a response.

I don't know if they asked anything of the kids, I didn't ask their mother. I will, though. I'm also wondering if they collected the stuff the kids needed to bring, which is just the photos.

But my income was sufficient, my income is well over the threshold. I don't understand how they could arbitrarily decide not to go by what is in the guidelines. This is why I've emailed them directly to try to get a real idea of what they have said because since I was not there, I don't know what they told the children's mother.

Any update on this thread? Did you send in the copy of their dads green card and what happened next?

WE 'must' in all things have faith, though we often ask the questions why? Everything will be just fine.
