i just called that number

he said its still pending

but everything looks okay

he said you should expect a call to pick it up within the next couple of weeks

how come it takes so long???

and how come some people got it in 4 days?

this means its approved for sure?

im worried....

Alright, so you called DOS? What I would do is call this afternoon to see if you get a different answer. The visa being pending would mean AP (administrative processing). If the person you get next says the same thing, definitely get your congressman involved.

I think it is safe to say that whatever a DOS person tells you, don't blindly believe it. A couple weeks could mean a couple of months, considering they are not the most accurate most of the time...

The faster you get the congressman involved ( I know I'm repeating myself here) the faster you'll have an answer, and hopefully your visa in hand.

Don't stress out too much, even though that's easier said than done, but stay proactive and things will be ok. If you just wait around, that wouldn't be good for your stress level!

hi. my fiance's visa took a full month to get to him. he also lived in montreal. i had to involve my senator to get montreal consulate off their behinds and print the damn thing..not saying you will have to go this route. in my opinion (from the info you've given) you ARE approved - but you've had the misfortune of falling into the post-interview time standstill that has been striking some of us lately...hang in there.

AP is more common in MENA and Sub Sarahan but it means they are still checking into your background somehow. If you were approved at the interview and in AP there is still a very very very small chance you will be denied, if AP digs up some sort of dirt. The problem is that AP is unpredictable and can take a long time. However for places other than the ones I mentioned it is usually less than a month. It is a braod catagory for any uncleared investigations or document validations that need to clear before they can give a visa.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

agreed again, man you people are smart! Ha ha .

Give Dos a call another 1-2 calls today just to get answers from more then One person. If you are in ap theres most likely no problem they are just holding it to fit their quota maybe

I cant answer why some people (such as myself) have got it in 2 days and others end up waiting, I believe MSR still has not received her visa either and shes in ottawa, although her interview date was friday so its been 5 business days for her.

As for me, it's only been 4 business days since my interview , today being the 4th.

We called DOS as well, but i don't think they even know to be honest. They were not even aware that we were scheduling our own interviews, so i don't put much value in what they say. The lady said we were in AP, but we said that we had the interview letter in our hands stating we had already been approved. So she changed her story and said to follow the instructions on the approval letter, which was to register with DHL, i've already done that.

Again, as it's only been 4 business days for us ( we can't include friday in all fairness ), we won't start worrying until Monday of next week or possibly beyond that.

Just want to say to the OP, and everyone else waiting for their visa...

I don't have much advice to give, as I didn't go through Montreal, but I really do hope you all get your passports with your visa's soon! I can only imagine how it must feel to wait.

In the mean time...keep your self busy!! Organize the things you want to take; sell off those items you no longer need, (or give them away) clean your homes for selling, or your apartments if your moving out. Take extra time to be with friends and family; could be a while till you see them again. Take lots of pictures (and videos) of the town you live in for your own personal memories.

I understand that Montreal is sloooooow when it comes to things....and it's probably like the petitions: some are quick..and some take time.

Mtl can be slow at times at sending the visa out! And as you have learned--- it is never a good idea to book ur ticket prior to getting the visa in hand!

Their is no rhyme or reason why some get it asap while others wait! Maybe some go thru a few extra security checks, or it goes onto a desk that a person is off on holiday!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

If I could give one bit of sound advice it is exactly what flames said.

NEVER book anything until you know you have that visa. Sometimes it can take a couple of weeks, it's not fair but that's the way it is.

We previously discussed with everyone that the visa is "pending" until it goes into your passport and is ready to go - administrative lingo basically.

Donne moi une poptart!

If they said "pending" that does not mean it's in AP, they sound the same but they aren't. I spent 3 months calling DoS to be told over and over that it was in AP, when they finally said "it's still PENDING but looks like it's ready to go" I got my visa within a week. Also don't believe any timeline Montreal gives you, they pretty much always take WAY longer than they say they will.

If they said it's approved then it is. They can't 'unapprove' it. Montreal is notorious for taking weeks for some people to get their Visa's in, days for others. Guess it just depends on who's hands it fell in. Booking a ticket a week or two after you had your interview is a risky move. You should always wait until it is in hand before making arrangements. You haven't waited long yet. Give it another week then worry. In the meantime, rebook your ticket to a much later date if you can.

See profile for our K-1 Visa/AOS story from 2010-2011Apparently we love USCIS/NVC so much we left and are doing it again! This time giving IR-1 a whirl. Rock on immigrators.
