5. 1. Not gonna happen. The house is still in my name along with my EX. There is no way to get that changed in time.

2. Not gonna happen as I own a house.

3. I can dabble on that.

4. No kids.

5. I could get tons of these...

6. Does anyone have additional suggestions as to the "anything else" category?!

Anything that show a comingling of lives. Joint memberships, accounts, credit cards, auto insurance, health insurance, life insurance beneficiary, aforementioned utility bills in both names, copies of drivers' license showing the same address, mail addressed to the both of you, etc.

Start creating as much as you can and save everything with both names on it. Don't worry, you can throw a lot of it all out in a few years after removal of conditions. Things that we did we: additional authorized used of credit card, health insurance, joint warehouse club membership, joint checking and savings account.

I had the same issue. My husband and I didn't have anything we owned together, or even any statements that both our names were on. Everything was in my husbands name. So we just took a statement from my husband's insurance policy that had me as a beneficiary on it. We took anything that I ever got in my name at our address to show I actually lived there (bill from the doctor, ITIN form for taxes, etc...) But they told us to also bring electric and water bills and stuff like that, even though they were in my husbands name. I have no clue how that would have helped. We didn't have those at our interview, but hey, we still got approved, so no harm done I guess.

I also found every picture ever taken of the 2 of us, and me with his family. It wasn't that many, we're don't really take a lot of pictures. But anything that can show that you are really living together, and in each others lives.

If they feel that you haven't given them a lot of evidence, they will send you a request for evidence. But don't worry about that just yet, just do what you can, that's all you can do. I just sent in the above, aside from the pictures. I didn't show those until the interview.

Good luck with everything !

Thanks for the suggestions. I saw that list yesterday and kind of had a panic attack over it. I could get photos and some of the utility bills already have both of our names on them. I am working on getting the others swapped over. I didn't think about health or life insurance, so I will get busy on that. I did get him an Arkansas ID card since he does not have a DL yet (he never had one in the UK), and he has received some mail at the house, so hopefully it will be enough!

Jill,

For the initial filing, you don't need to send anything other than the photocopy of your marriage certificate. They don't expect you to have much new to add to your K-1 interview proofs, especially if you're filing just a couple months later (how could you?)!

We didn't do anything special to get relationship bonafides together, even after we got the interview notice. I had wanted to get him the capability to spend US dollars and stop using his cards in pounds, so I made him an authorized user on the credit card (One 5 minute phone call, BTW). He needed a US based mobile, so we got a family plan. He needs medical insurance, so I got him on as soon as I possibly could. These are things you'd be doing already. You don't need to be spending time and effort doing things specially. I didn't change any names on the house, we didn't make any babies (we didn't have time, AND we didn't want to) The house is owned, so no lease, and I was living there before he got there, so all the utilities are in my name. We didn't bother our friends and family to write out affidavits. I think the most particular effort we made was to select about 6 digital pictures to print out on plain paper on the home printer - a couple from the wedding, visits with his and my family, our Halloween costumes for a party we went to....and that was only because we got an interview.

6. Does anyone have additional suggestions as to the "anything else" category?!

Buy a canoe and put both names on the state registration (we did do that but only because we like canoeing first).

Library card

SSN (has the address on it)

Junk mail (has the address and her/his name on it)

Registration at the local community college

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

The canoe idea I get because it shows something joint.

Did a library card and the other things you listed help? I'm not precisely sure how this would show a relationship other than him having an identical mailing address? Just curious if you used these ideas as well? :)

Hi Jill---

Just send it in as Heather said, then start a folder (or pile) to throw things into in case you get an interview. Hopefully you won't need it.

That's what I've got going for removal of conditions since you do send your evidence with that application. It's surprising how things things will pop up for the folder. "Oh cool, the dental receipt has both our next appointments at the bottom. Your Mum sent a card addressed to both of us. Look, the vet receipt has both our names. The car insurance has both drivers...make a photocopy for the folder." Later we will edit the pile and see what we want to send, but we have a gathering place for now. I noticed our online bank statements show a thumbnail of each check written. That's new with our new bank. We write few checks, but now I make him write some so it shows we both regularly use that joint account.

If you start your folder now, you'll have a lot for ROC that spans the entire two years which is what they like to see. We too have no babies and I own the house and utilities. And we even have different last names. We did ask the water company if they could do both names and it's comical how they jumbled the names.

Fantastic idea...especially since I am notorious for loosing papers. I just need to make a AOS/INTERVIEW/ROC box and get to throwing stuff in there!
