Before I start sending away money I am hoping someone can help me. I have my long birth certifiate so that is not an issue. I have been married twice in Alberta can anyone tell me which marriage certificate I need the small one or large one? ALso I have been divorced twice once in Alberta and the other in BC. I have copies of both divorce decrees - is this what I will need to show when I have my interview? Any hlp would be appreciated before I start the document gleaning process.

You don't need to provide a marriage certificate for either of your marriages... only the divorce decrees. They need to be sent in with the I-129F when your fiancee files to start the process.

In packet 3 from Vancouver on the checklist it asks for marriage certificate and divorce certificate from all previous marriages. I emailed Vancouver and asked if i needed both ( marriage and divorce ) and they said yes .. unless it was "impossible" to get the marriage cert. the divorce decree would be 'ok' .. so i plan to take both with me because we all know it's better to be prepared just in case. If you have Q's about it or doubts Vancouver is great about returning emails fast. Good Luck :star:

hmm. My husband has been married twice before and he just needed to submit the divorce decrees with his I-129f petition, then I just needed to have bring the originals with me to the interview. Neither of us provided copies or originals of his previous marriage certificates. I don't know if it is different if you are the beneficiary although I don't recall seeing a need for previous marriage certificates for the beneficiary either. I interviewed in Montreal, however, not Vancouver. Definitely verify that with the Consulate; I would think they don't need proof that you or your husband were previously married, just proof that the marriage is no longer ( ie either widowed or divorced) and you are both free to marry.

Thank you for your help all. Since I will be processed through Vancouver it appears that I will need both the marriage certificates and the divorce decrees. I will write to Alberta to get the necessary documentation. Maybe if I get some things done earlier, the burden of the costs will not appear so great.

ditto on the no marriage certificate thing, I gave mine to my lawyer when he did my divorce, havent seen it since...dont miss it either. almost framed the divorce decree tho lol
