So I applied for my wife back in may. On the petition I put down her name with my family name as hers. Now shes tryin to get a passport with my family name as her last name but the nothing ever gets done in pakistan on time. Would it be ok if the passport with her maiden name is used or do we need to get a new passpirt with the new name. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your wife should reach the NADRA office with your Nikkah Nama and your' and her's NADRA Cards and get a new Nadra ID Card for your wife with the last name you need and then get an urgent passport made. Go to Nadra officelate as they stay open till 10 at night so you would not have to wait in a long line which never seems to move. Applying like this will delay your case and you will be exchanging documents with uscis and nvc. Good Luck

The passport change is basically a choice. If you want your wife's green card to have her MARRIED name, then the passport should be changed first because the green card will show exactly what the passport says. If not, then her green card will be issued with her maiden name.

It's always cheaper and easier to have the passport changed in the home country (at least, most of the time). It took me 4 weeks to get my new passport, I had to bring the marriage certificate and 2 photos, that was basically it. But again, it DOES NOT have to be changed.
