And to think Millions of Americans are still brainwashed into thinking free health care is evil..makes you want to bang your head against a brick wall, but then you'd probably have to go to the hospital...

Amen!

The Health insurance companies are pure scumbags, plain and simple. Nothing in the watered down health care bill will substantially change anything. You can look forward to things like 10K per annum deductibles which means your insurance is useless. My fiancee only has hers because it is mandatory for her school. She never actually bothers to file a claim. If you are indigent, the hospitals usually write off major expenses or cut a deal with you.

OUR HEALTHCARE ISN'T FREE!

I wish people would stop saying that.

I agree.

not too mention that one day Ontario will HAVE to change the health care system. The money will run out one day, and everything will start to cost.

That's true, nothing is free... I mean, when you work/live in Quebec, 43% of your income goes to income taxes and other various taxes... But I still wish I could go to the doctor, show a card, and be done with it...

Of course It's not free, sheesh we know that,we pay taxes I get it,but when you lose your job and don't pay taxes it's free aint it?...if your homeless it's free aint it?...I'd gladly double my taxes to have the peace of mind free healthcare gives you, rather then the BS that goes on here..

Homeless in the USA probably have it better than most!! We have many homeless patients--Hospitals can't turn them away! I'm pretty certain they are not paying their bills!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I guess what irritated me the most when Chris told me that it would be an extra 430$ to put me on his insurance was the 'female' part. Ok, I don't work right now, that makes sense... But I should be penalised because I have a uterus??? As far as I know, unless technology has changed since last time I checked, you need sperm to create a foetus...

Even proof of me being on birth control wouldn't bring the cost down...

I was so pissed I didn't even want to damn coverage!

Their are many things that can up your insurance costs--smoking is one of them! All depends on the plan! Insurance companies are not their to help you, they are their to make a profit!! lol

It depends On the doctor at the er, I was not charged :) But it was a very sad day so.

My husband works with a international huge company and when i get there next week he will add my son and myself to his company coverage and the family coverage is 180.00 every two weeks for dental, vision and health. I thought wow that is steep but we could have 5 children and still only pay 180.00 semi monthly. I do not want something to happen and Us be stuck with a huge bill plus we plan on getting pregnant asap and we cannot afford to deliever in a hospital without coverage , heck if I dont have coverage I will be doing it at home by myself and i dont want that (I want a epidoral lol)

that is actually a pretty good rate... we pay about $130 every 2 weeks for my husband and I and that covers health, vision and dental too.... a lot of people have to pay a lot more...

Simon was a medic in the army and as part of his training he had to learn to deliver babies...and did deliver a couple while deployed in Iraq (it was a challenge...Iraqi women tend to be not to fond of having a male american soldier delivering them!!!). It was our little joke if the insurace thing didn't work out at least he would be able to deliver me at home....lol

We have a PPO with Blue Cross/Blue Shield. We pay $165 every two weeks for medical, dental and vision but we still have co-pays of $25 (family practitioner) to $50 (any other type of medical doctor, chiropractor, specialist, therapist) for doctor visits; $1000 maximum for dental - and many things aren't covered or are partially covered; and most other costs (tests, prescriptions, etc.) are not covered 100% but between 80 to 90% so we have to pick up the additional costs. In addition, our insurer has a preferred supplier of diabetic supplies and medication. Unfortunately, their supplier does not supply the insulin I use (I have tried the insulin they want me to use and it doesn't work effectively for me) and the glucometer they want me to use is not supported by my endocrinologist - and while 'competent', is not as good as the one I have now and have been using for a number of years. The insurance company wants me to stop using it, though, and use the cheaper, less effective model they list as preferred - the one that isn't supported by my medical care practitioner and isn't as good as what I use now. The cost of the supplies without insurance is the same, however, since I chose to make my health care a higher priority than their bottom line and continue to use the medication that works and my current glucometer, our insurer only reimburses my diabetic supplies at 50% instead of 80%.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
