I care about my online reputation too. I am always careful of what I say so I don't offend anyone.

I care about what I say not necessarily because I care what people think of me, but because I care about how I make people feel - or in the case of this board how beneficial they might find my words. I do quite a bit of self-censoring. It seems like maybe even half the posts I write get deleted instead of posted. Sometimes the odd ###### gets out.

I have to say that along with just about everyone else, I do also care what people might say back to me, but that's because I don't really have an online persona which can take the beating and keep me clear of it...

I have never even thought about that!! I guess I am not that creative- I am always posting as myself so any feedback, positive or negative, would get to me directly.

That means, I do and at the same time don't care about my online reputation. I do care because I don't want others to get the wrong impression about me and then I don't care because if I was percieved as this or that and it is not

who I am, I'd hope they would change their minds if they knew me in person.

If that makes any sense...

Now, I am not posting much in OT anymore. I used to for a while, stopped after I had my son and once I was back here more often, it felt like I didn't "belong" anymore. People have changed their screennames and I don't have a lot of time to figure out who-is-who and it always feels like there is this "inner circle" of people who seem to know each other on a different level. Kinda hard to explain but I only feel this here in OT, none of the other forums.

Anyway, I used to be very active in another online community and I have to say, eventhough the forum doesn't exist anymore, I am still in touch with a good handful of people on a more personal level. To the point where at times I'd have to remind myself that I have never met these people before in real life.

The bottom line for me is- online reputation matters only if you want to be seen as the person you are.

I have a person that openly and publicly stalks my profile on here weekly. They're usually on the top of my visitors list like now. Why they do this game I don't know but it feeds something for them. I've never said anything to them nor confronted them about this, yet they've only posted bad things about me and I don't even know them. Which makes me think they are a sock puppet. Should I allow them the satisfaction of their acknowledgment like I have now? I don't know what they have to gain from it but reputation and notoriety among whoever or whatever. KWIM?

As far as online rep, I don't befriend too many people online to care. I like forums and interacting with people that way but actually befriending people online scares me. Too many crazies on the internet, lol.
