Hi guys,

I have a quick question. I received the welcome letter on saturday and I did some research. I'm just curious what defines the status of immigration? One source said that if you receive the welcome letter you are a permanent resident whether you have the green card or not. once you become permanent resident it is a fixed status even if the green card expires. And green card is just used to show your status. Is this correct?

As a side note, mine is not a conditional status but a 10 year status.

Yes as a permenent resident your status does not expire only the card.... you have to renew it every 10 years... unless you become a citizen....

A conditional permenent resident status does expire if you do not file to lift the conditions during the 90 days before the expiry date on the card....
