Cute fail sarcasm.

If you read what I said, then I am talking about the activists and those who are the loudest. It's just like the big political activists of any group, they're extreme, so the ideas they represent get lost in the shuffle. I mean look at someone like Anderson Cooper, he'd be great to lead a 'gay rights' rally. He's 'normal' by any and all means. Look at comedians like Wanda Sykes or Ellen Degeneres. Yeah, they're 'gay', but they're 'normal' people. Catch my drift?

I did, but I don't agree that "normal" means "hetero-normative". The number of people you are talking about is infinitesimally small compared to the greater gay and/or ####### population as a whole, just as the aggressively straight douches who wear Ed Hardy are not representative of the straight community. We can focus on outliers because they are more visible. Outliers should be recognised as such and whilst their points of view should be taken into account*, they should not be seen as speaking for any particular group or sub-group. To do otherwise is to be at least partially guilty of intellectual sloppiness.

*I make an exception for The Situation. His viewpoint should be disregarded.

Correct me if I'm wrong here Paul, but you're saying the flaming queens are offensive while the "normal" gays like Ellen DeGeneres and Wanda Sykes are ok? So essentially you're saying It's ok to be gay, but don't act gay in any way shape or form around me.

There's a difference in being 'gay' and being extravagant. Being flamboyent is not "acting gay." Being flamboyent is being flamboyent. My point here is that unacceptance by a lot of people is they view 'gay' people in this light because that's what they see in the media and during "pride" events. The "normal" people rarely get shown, eventhough they are the overwhelming majority.

Sure it's intellectually dishonest to believe that the majority of a group are like that, but when that's what people see, then people just assume because they are too lazy to be educated on their own. I blame those people and the media as well for putting that at the forefront... That wouldn't exactly be a leading news story though without the flamers though, now would it?

right, but that's not my point here at all. My point is, is that what people see in the public light is what their assumptions come from a lot of times. So many people have 'simple' minds that they beleive everything they see on TV/what the media puts out there. If flamers is all they see, then that's how they see the 'gay community' as a whole.

Sign of the apocalypse No. 43,426: Paul and I agree (substantially) again.

Seriously though, I do agree that the twin culprits of intellectual laziness on the parts of the media and the populace need to be counteracted by the less flamboyant of all persuasions lest the rational discourse be lost in leather chaps and wet t-shirt contests.

I think the point here is, why do gay people need to conform to some normative state that is acceptable to conservative christians to be taken seriously? I know several people whom I would consider quite liberal, but put them in a room with a gay person with exaggerated manerisms and you'd think you were in 1961 Alabama. So there are many people, regardless of political affiliation, sex, age, etc., that have this reaction to gay people. It's really sad. It keeps us from having any sort of honest discussion about issues concerning gays.

exaggerated manerisms make almost anyone uncomfortable who's not used to being around that though. It's nothing against anyone necessarily, but people fear that of which they do not know so many times. Every individual is different in how they feel about such things. I know quite a few gay people that can't stand to be around the flamboyent ones for the life of them and think they're nuts, lol... It depends on the person/attitude really. I'm sure you'd get an odd reaction if you showed up to work or the mall wearing a red bikini bottom and a shirt half-way up your chest..

It's not just a matter of gay people acting differently, in a way in which some people aren't used to. The difference is that when dealing with gay people, quite a few of those who are not used to being around gay people are passive aggressively if not openly hostile towards them.

you still get the same reaction from people who interact with someone of a different race and even some men/women that interract with one another. That's one of those things that's always going to be there. There's just people out there who can't stand or are uncomfortable with being around someone different than themselves.... Ever met a 'gay' racist... It's interesting.

I actually have, and it's scary. Kind of like the exorcism, or having a spanish teacher with a thick southern drawl. Just scary to hear.

The thing I find interesting is whenever you hear Libs go on an on about Gays.... the ethnocentrism just drips from their words and convictions.

After all, if we took a poll across the world about "feeling comfortable" with flaming gay people..... what percentage would line up with accepting homosexuality as normal or natural behavior?

The thing i find interesting is the quantity and excuisite pungency of the manure that comes out of your mouth.

Danno, that is the biggest load of ####### i've seen in quite a while from you. So according to you, because a lot of people don't feel comfortable around gays, then they should just suck it up and deal with whatever treatment they get, or civil rights they are deprived of? Sound rationale there Danno.

Here, let school you again.

eth·no·cen·trism [ èthnō sén trìzzəm ]

noun

Definition:

conviction of own cultural superiority: a belief in or assumption of the superiority of the social or cultural group that a person belongs to ( disapproving )

-------------------------------------------

Clearly Lefties like you believe you are "more enlightened" on the view of Homosexuality than is the unwashed masses across the globe.... go on, admit it.

Danno, while you've got the dictionary out, you should look up 'irony' and 'hypocrite'.

First of all you used the term -Feel comfortable around.

Do you think most people care if two fairy types are cooing into each other eyes at the next table while at the coffee shop?

Most people don't.

Would the average person feel comfortable to have their son come to them and confess, they are into being humped by guys?

...I don't thinkso.
