Listen, first and foremost, the bullshit starts at home. If parents love their kids enough and pay attention to what's going on in their lives, then a lot of this can be put to a stop right there.

Then on the other hand there's kids that kill themselves because they are also weak. I have ZERO sympathy for someone who takes their own life. It means you can't cut it in the real world and should probably be kept in some dark hold anyway.

I went through a lot of ####### as a kid, a lot of the same ####### and more than some of these kids who kill themselves. I didn't kill myself and didn't think once about it. Hell, I even had a bad situation at home as well. So yeah, I don't have any sympathy.

A lot of this is due to the anti-man culture that's come about too. Don't be competitive, be more sensitive, don't play tag anymore, don't ever touch each other, don't keep score and just play... It's turning our kids into a bunch of pussies. If these kids were taught to fight back, maybe less of this ####### would be taking place. Man up.

DALLAS - Schools and college campuses nationwide are being warned that failing to properly address bullying could be a violation of federal anti-discrimination laws.

The warning came in the form of a letter issued by the US Department of Education.

President Obama is backing the campaign which is being launched today.

It is a direct aim at schools, warning them you've got to be held accountable.

At the same time, it's a response to the high-profile bullying cases that we've been hearing about recently, some of which have turned deadly.

Here in Texas, in Cyprus, 13-year-old Asher Brown took his own life after his mother says he was literally bullied to death, picked on for his small size, his religion and for the fact he didn't wear designer clothes.

This new federal initiative reminds schools in this case it may well have been that fellow students were committing a civil rights violation through harassment.

The initiative outlines how school leaders can put a stop to it, saying reprimanding perpetrators is not enough.

Schools must also go on to eliminate the hostile environment immediately.

This initiative spells out some ways to do that, which includes counseling perpetrators, publicly labeling incidents as harassment, and publicizing how students can go on to report harassment.

As the President reminds all of us, bullying is not a right of passage.

Too often we are seeing it is actually turning deadly on our school campuses.

The problem is the parents don't teach children values and morals. It's not about being a pu*** it's about humans falling to have even the least bit of self control, manners, values, morals, and plain old right and wrong.

Not at all. Morals are a simple fabrication that tries to steer society in a certain direction. They aren't a 'matter of fact' thing. Human nature still kicks in and there will always be bullies and there will always be those who feel the need to test the waters on the limits of others. It's who/what we are. Most bullies know "right from wrong" like any other child does. Hell, some know it more than others, but they also feel the need to prove themelves as being better than others, or they simply take pride in intimidation. Most of them though will back off when stood up to. If you create a reality for them where you're scared/taunted, then they'll continue to persue you and attack.

That part is about being pussies. If children were taught to fight back and stand up for themselves again, then a lot of this wouldn't be news. Well, perhaps it would as this is the "in thing" right now to treat as a part of activism...

Pretty callous to suggest that people who commit suicide essentially deserve what they got.

When children are at school, it is the schools responsibility to ensure their wellfare during hours of operation. If children are killing themselves, or other violence because the bullying is unbearable, then there is a fundamental problem, one that "sack up and deal with it" simply can't address. It would be nice if all parents took an active role in their childrens lives. But this is the real world and that's just not how it goes down.

Outside of putting a wiretap/camera on every single child, then you're not going to put a stop to something that's natural.

We already have kids arrested and with criminal records in some states now days because they got into a simple/normal fight at school. That hasn't curbed the bullying.

Hell, the biggest complaint I see is bullying on things like facebook/myspace now days. The schools cannot control that. That is up to the parents to monitor their children. Kids get in trouble at school and know it, so they do their bullying online... What do you do in those cases? You're right that parents don't act as they should and that is part of the problem. Too many parents today forget how to be parents and would rather be a friend. I think that's an even bigger issue when you get down to the bottom of it all.

The big difference that I saw in bullying from when I was a kid to when I was teaching was the intent of it. When I was a kid, it was all just teasing. I've actually seen kids collaborating and coordinating their bullying efforts. I can remember the taunting from when I was a kid, and all because I had a really effed up surname. But all it was, was teasing. I have a cousin who had to go through all the taunting (same surname), but now, with pervasive nature of Facebook, he has to deal with it far more than I ever had to.

Cyber bullying doesn't have less of an impact than physical bullying merely because online relationships and even fights spill over to the real world the next day. This really is a realm that only parents can influence. You can outlaw cyber bullying all you want, you can put hard age restrictions on social networks, but kids will find a way onto them. Unfortunately, you can't make people be better parents.

Of course one of the worst bullying going on is against Fat kids.

Where is their national spokesman.... telling them it's ok to be fat?

I guess the case could be made that even Mrs. Obama is piling on with the "fat people need to change" stuff.

Lets be honest, this whole national conversation is about taking the tragic death of a few teens and milking it into a political "cause" for gay folks to build on their social acceptance.... starting in the 5th and 6th grade.

Seems the message is:It's ok to be gay.... it will get better.

Is that what we tell other battered people? Hang in there and one day you will be past it?

The simple message should be "Bullying will not be tolerated".

This would be much more to the point and not exclude anyone.

Danno, you clearly don't understand the underlying problem inherent to bullying gay kids. I'm sorry Danno, but it is ok for them to be gay, and bullying them when they are children or tormenting them in college and even beyond is not acceptable. Bullying anyone simply because of a characteristic that they are born with is really pathetic.

It's not callous at all, it's the Libertarian way.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

see you are part of the problem... though I know you don't mean to be.

You seem to suggest, that if someone is born a certain way ... it would be pathetic to bully them.

What about kids who are bullied because they do well in school or they have an uncommon religion..... it's ok to bully them?

Why do you and the president make fat kids feel they are partly to blame for being picked on?

Then there's Danno and his notion that if there is a spotlight on bullying gay kids that automatically means that all other types of bullying doesn't matter. I'm not sure which fantasy I like best, decisions, decisions.

Actually it's extremely easy to stop, by making in a felony - like assault. Once the first few kids are sent off to juvy, the rest will learn to act normal. Those tho don't, well #### em, let them rot in prison.

Another law that needs to be enacted in western societies, is a cause an effect law. So if I persistently bully, antagonize and harass someone, which result in them cracking, then I should be held accountable for this. If they commit suicide, then would be charge with manslaughter. Once again, after a few idiots are jailed because of this, the message will get around.
