Hi there,

I have a quick question and I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out.

I am currently on OPT (Phd). I have a valid US F-1 visa until December 2nd, 2010. If I apply for visa renewal in Canada before that date, and for some reason (god forbid)after the interview the visa application gets denied, will I be able to use my previous visa (which is still valid beyond that date) to re-enter US? Or will they cancel the existing visa as well?

My second question is, I will be applying in Canada (toronto?) . My EAD under OPT is valid until February 4th and the STEM extension is in process (have the receipt). Will the US embassy entertain my visa renewal application?

I have tried calling various numbers on the website, just could not get a hold of anyone that can help. If anybody has any experience with my situation, kindly share as well.

Thank you!

I understand that once you applied and had your interview for a new visa, your old one is automatically out of the picture because your status entered a new stage, whether you get denied or not. You cannot carry two valid visas. I think their reason is to keep a clean record of your status. Hope this helped for your first point.
