I-864 Employment Letter

I was looking at the requirements for the I-864 and it states that you need 6 months of pay stubs and/or employment letter if you believe any of these items will help.

I have a stable job with government and copies of pay stubs. My issue is with the employment letter. Being a government agency our HR department is less than cooperative in most manners.

My question is, do I really need this letter?

Loto is correct, however, I am of the belief that more is better to cover your butt. So if you can get it then get it. Your HR department probably has to do a similar kind of letter all the time. You could even do a brief outline for them and just have them sign it if you like.

the instructions i864 says that You are not required to submit this evidence, however, unless specifically instructed to do so by a Government official.

you may include (NOT SHOULD)a recent letter from your employer, showing your employer's address and telephone number, and indicating your annual salary. You may also provide pay stub(s) showing your income for the previous six months. If your claimed income includes alimony, child support, dividend or interest income,or income from any other source, you may also include evidence of that income.

Enter your current individual earned or retirement annual income that you are using to meet the requirements of this form and indicate the total on this line.

I GUESS THEY ASK FOR MORE EVIDENCE IF YOU TYPE IN YOUR CURRENT INCOME ON QUESTION 23, MORE THAN YOUR INCOME FROM RECENT TAX RETURN.

Amy, here is another finding.

As per I-864 adjudicator's manual (http://www.uscis.gov...ppafm062706.pdf) Page# 15, employment letter and paystubs are optional with the initial submission. If they need it, they will ask it and you can submit it later.

However, I didn't take a chance and included my employment letter and paystubs.

(2) Job Letters and Proof of Income. Pay stub(s) showing income for the most recent 6 months and letters from all current employers are no longer required as initial evidence. The applicant, however, may submit either or both of these items (1) in response to a request for additional evidence (RFE), or (2) with a Form I-864 if the applicant believes doing so would help establish that the sponsor meets the governing income/assets threshold. If submitted, letters from current employers should show dates of employment, the nature of the job, wages or salary earned, number of hours/weeks worked, and prospects for future employment and advancement. It should be sufficient for the employer to say that the employment is of indefinite duration or words of similar effect. Promises of future employment are not required.

try looking up your job through www.theworknumber.com they have a part in there for immigration purposes it verifies your income and doh

You just need to have your immediate supervisor sign the letter. Leave HR out of the picture if at all possible (they will just screw things up). The letter just needs to be 4-5 sentences long on letterhead with the basics, start date, salary, job title etc. I am Federal govt. and my boss had no problems with signing.

My opinion is the letter is important.

That is what I did, I left HR out & had my Area Manager who is in charge of all the stores (& also who is the one who authorize my pay/raises) signed the employment letter.
