I found out last week that I have kidney stones. It's been a rather...unpleasant experience to say the least. Luckily I think they have all gone now. ;)

It's coming to my attention that this is relatively common though, so I wondered if anyone here has had this experience and how things have gone for you since. Thanks! :)

I have suffered with stones for 10 years now. Basically, it has cost me my left kidney.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Poor Trillium! I'm so sorry, but hopefully they've gone and won't return.

Not to scare, but sometimes they get so large that they cannot pass. This past September I had an 8mm stone that of course was too big to pass so I had lithotripsy and went home with a stent for the next 2 weeks. That was my 34th lithotripsy. 0n a scale of 1 to 10, the pain factor was 80. When you have a large stone and it is stuck in the ureter, believe me you will know it. Writhing in pain is an understatement.

OMG, that's huge. I can't imagine what all of you have been through, I've only had one stone so far. It was certainly an experience I wouldn't wish on anyone. I still have to see a urologist.

Nagi, wow. (F)

Another sad fact is that I have no health insurance and just got a letter saying I owe almost $7000.

I think that would hurt worse than the stones. Major ouch.

Yeah. It's making me question whether I should have even gone in. But I had that pain off and on for 2 weeks, and one day it just wouldn't stop. You guys know what that pain is like, and I didn't know at the time what was wrong.

Everyone keeps saying I did the right thing by going, but I can't help but wish I hadn't. :(

That's too bad. Coincidentally my first stone was also sans-insurance. I was very sick and vomiting for hours so I really had to go also. At least now you know what it is, and what your next step is. Too bad it came with a result of a big bill though :( I hope this is just a one time thing for you and no issues in the future!
