I am assisting a friend with I-864. Her brother-in-law is the co-sponsor. I have a few questions.

Question 1: Should she mark "e"? It reads, I am the first of two joint sponsors. Initially, I marked "a". It says, I am the petitioner. I filed or am filing for the immigration of my relative.

Question 8: I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above.

Should she mark no? The other sponsor is her husband's brother.

Question 9: I am sponsoring the following family members immigrating at the same time or within six months of the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above.

I listed her husband's name again. Is that ok?

Thanks in advance for any help. They have been married for 4 years. I don't want a RFE.

1.  The petitioner picks "a"/    the joint sponsor picks "d" /     If you have more than one joint sponsor then you select "e"  and check this is the first sponsor than the second joint sponsor selects "e" then the second box.

8. both should check yes.

9. this is only if someone else is coming along with the husband  on the same visa application. You do not list anyone that is already listed in part 2. Please read the instructions to the form and take it how they have wrote it.

Joint sponsor refers to anyone other than the petitioner.  The petitioner for the entire process is the wife, the beneficiary the husband, and the Joint Sponsor is the husbands brother.

Hi Mrs. Scott i'd be happy to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge.

Question 1: Should she mark "e"? It reads, I am the first of two joint sponsors. Initially, I marked "a". It says, I am the petitioner. I filed or am filing for the immigration of my relative.

ANS: If you friend is the petitioner for her husband then she should choose "a." You would choose "E" if she had two joint sponsors; in addition if her brother-in-law is the only joint sponsor, then his I-864 should have "D" checked.

Question 8: I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above.

Should she mark no? The other sponsor is her husband's brother.

ANS: She should mark yes for this question because she is sponsoring the principal immigrant and they're not two joint sponsors.

Question 9: I am sponsoring the following family members immigrating at the same time or within six months of the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above.

ANS: If no one is immigrating with him, I.e "children" then you don't need to fill this part out.

Good luck to your friend on her journey.
