Many of America's top brands rate much higher among one political party or the other, according to an analysis of YouGov's BrandIndex survey results.

Google is the top brand for Democrats, according to an index incorporating consumer impressions of its quality, its value, their satisfaction with it, its reputation, their willingness to recommend it and their general impression of it. Google doesn't appear in Republicans' top 10.

Republicans, on the other hand, rank Fox News tops; Fox News, perhaps not surprisingly, doesn't appear on the list of Democrats' favorite 10 brands.

JetBlue is the third-ranked airline brand among Democrats, but doesn't crack the top five among Republicans, the BrandIndex analysis shows. Republicans rate Aflac among their top five insurers, while Democrats make room for Progressive.

...

Target says it didn't suffer any bottom-line damage after gay-rights supporters and some customers protested its $150,000 contribution to a group supporting a candidate opposed to gay marriage. But it might have avoided the whole mess if it considered its perceived political image first. Target is the fourth-ranked retailer among Democrats, according to BrandIndex, but is nowhere in the top five for Republicans.

Many brands perform well among members of both parties: Cheerios, UPS, FedEx, Craftsman, J&J, the History Channel and the Discovery Channel have appeal across political divides.

A separate study should be conducted to test this, but I predict more than 9 out of 10 respondents of both parties have no idea who or what General Mills is.

This is true, figuring even in this study, "Cheerios" is considered a "brand" when it's not....

You can see General Mills from Alaska.

that'd be pretty damn impressive figuring it's on the north side of Minneapolis!

I wonder if location of people had anything to do with democrats supposedly liking Target better than Republicans. We love our two Targets in my town, but smaller towns than mine often do not even have a Target for people to go to.

I think location and lifestyle have a lot to do with it. There are generally fewer Democrats in less densely populated areas, so you raise a good point. Also, the thing in the article about airlines. One look at the route map of JetBlue will tell you why Dems tend to like it more than Repubs.

But Cheerios - that cuts across all boundaries and truly is the only thing left in American life that unites us all. In Cheerios we trust.

Yeah.

Where my parents live, which would definitely be a Republican dominated town, they have been wanting a Target built there for years. The closest Target is about 45 minutes away.
