K3 status - phone number?

Hello,

How do you talk to a USCIS person / immigration officer on phone about case status ? I have tried calling 800.375.5283 which is what I have for Chicago, on my K3 NOA1. I can't seem to find an option to talk to a person. Am I trying wrong number? Please advise.

I had trouble at first too...try this:

Call 1-800-375-5283

Opt 6 Check on Status

Opt 2 Can't Find Receipt Number - That's the big trick

Opt 4 To speak to a live person

When you get customer service on the line tell them you can't pull up your case by the receipt number issued to you and that the agent stated that you should be able to do so.

This is what was recommended to me and it worked!

With the tip above I managed to speak with a person. Thank you. However, all she could tell me wat that "your application was received on blah blah" and "we are currently working on applications received by March 5, 2006". That's not much information. She insisted I can not speak with an immigration officer phone, I must make an infopass appointment. I know some of you have mentioned talking with some helpful officers, did yo keep calling (until I find a kind person) or is there another method?

Basically, the people on the USCIS hotline have no information whatsoever about individual cases, so your experience seems pretty typical. All they can ever do is put your mind at ease that work is being performed on your case, help answer some questions (if you're lucky) and facilitate address changes. If you need more than that, you're better off getting an Infopass appointment. Do you have specific concerns, or are you just antsy?

You are right about me just being impatient. My application was sent in mid-June, 2006, NOA1 date June 22 and only one touch ever. Seeing recent posting I am getting my hopes up, that's why this whole business of calling USCIS number. Thanks for your help and good luck on your journey, you are almost there.

I have certainly been there! Your impatience is perfectly normal and a common side-effect of this visa application process. One touch since your June NOA-1 you say?? You are doing GREAT compared to many people. Just sit back and relax. It's a long ride. The more you can train yourself to be patient, the better.

Well you have already gotten some really good advice so all I can add is that Mel and I feel the same way. Our Noa1 was June 26th and we have only been touched once on July 3rd. I think the problem is that if you are like me, I check VJ several times everyday and see people who are getting approvals that are after my NOA1 date and I get really excited. Then no approval comes, and time goes by and you start wondering what is wrong with your petition.

In reality, we just have not waited long enough yet, only 2 months while the majority of others here have waited 4,5,6 months for their approval.

Hang in there, this has an end for us someday, and we will all survivie this.

dougalted, you may get a better estimate of timing from others petitioning for a spouse from the same country. When everybody contributes to the site's stats, we all get a clearer picture than if we tried calling USCIS.
