Religious symbols should not be on public property in the United States.

And our Money does not serve a religious purpose either.... yet there is it "In God We trust".

This nation was founded on the concept that we are a people whose Rights are derived from our Creator, not from Government.

If our founding documents found room for this idea... I don't see how a flag with a little cross or Star of David is inconsistent with our traditions and history .. especially at a memorial site.

They can take it off the money also. The money was just as good before they put it on there.

"Creator" does not mean God or "a" God, it is entirely vague and does not need to be specific for the purpose. The purpose is to clearly state that rights do not come from government.

If an individual's family wishes to put whatever symbols they care to on particular graves that's entirely consistent with that sentiment but as I explained when you sign up to the American armed forces you are not signing up to god's militia and you don't have to believe in, worship or in any way acknowledge god, so to fly a symbol of a commitment to god on behalf of everyone is absurd - not offensive but unnecessary and inappropriate. It also opens the door to stupidity which we will I am sure experience before this plays its course.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

It's not about signing up for Gods Army, it's about the common traditions. It's for this very reason Chaplains are paid and supplied by with tax payer money.

It's the same reason the President is sworn in with his hand on a Bible and Congress (which also has a paid chaplain) starts in prayer every day.

One day we will have an actual Muslim in the White house, I expect he will be sworn in with his hand on his Quran as well.

No need to fear small expression or symbols of faith or religion... as long as they don't entail Congress "establishing" a national religion.

Sorry Danno, but I can still remember the disingenuous outrage from conservatives and libertariantards when Keith Ellison was sworn into congress using a Qu'ran. You simply want to maintain your own status quo and impose it upon the rest of the country.

 Well said.

We often disagree, often strongly, but you make your point well and I agree with you.

There are three Hundred million people in this country more than half claim they are at least somewhat conservative, that you can locate a "few" who outraged souls is not really meaningful.
