My experience with this is way different than most people because I see my fiance frequently. So for me, the hardest part is the nerve-wracking inspections at customs (when I go to visit him in Michigan). I haven't had any problems (knock on wood) but it still gets me shaking with nerves every time.

Waiting! The cursed waiting. And knowing that the file is just sitting somewhere and if someone would just pick it up it would be done in fifteen minutes. And knowing that there are thousands of worker I-129s ahead of my I-129F. And knowing that the numbers reported on the dashboard at USCIS are bogus. And knowing that the five month goal USCIS posted is another bogus number. And knowing the VSC is a month ahead. And knowing that USCIS took my money and may lose the documents I sent or just plain have a bad day and reject everything because a key was stuck on a keyboard. And a thousand other things that remind me that there is no connection between the documents I filed and the end result.

There will be no easy parts until my love is here with me. And then knowing that the several other petitions are an equally horrid ####### shoot.

Hummm - I feel better I think

For us the most difficult part was preparing for the interview. We had to deal with the consulate from hell. The waiting wasn't so bad, because we filled it up with preparation and studying. Gathering the paperwork sucked too, as I was overseas and had to deal with mailing stuff across the ocean..

Hi everyone!

Me and my fiancé haven't filed the documents, we just started learning how the process is to get the k1 visa.

I have some questions for you guys that already have experience in the subject. What was the hardest part of the process?

Waiting for them at the POE, just worried that something might be amiss at passport control.....nothing happened and they breezed right through and into my arms!

Oh, and how was it to prove that you were together for at least 2 years? what kind of proofs did you show?

We both had the usual....passport stamps, boarding passes, receipts in both names, photos, currency exchange receipts.

my fiancé and I have been together for more than 4 years and I'm afraid i didn't keep the plane tickets proving that I boarded... :/

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

We are totally on the same boat! :) My FI and I are still compiling our packet and we intend to send it out in a few weeks. Like you, I didn't keep my boarding passes which is a shame, so I scanned my passports. My FI though has some tucked away, unlike me he's more organized.

We've been together for almost 5 years now; I think I will be okay with the wait-- as long as it's in the 6-8 month range that I've psyched myself for. You've been with your FI 4 years too -- maybe we should be a little more patient! :)

I think the hardest part for me was talking to my USC wife and in-law cosponsor about the documentation requirements for the I-134 and I-864. That level of personal financial information is an awkward thing to ask for, even if they love you and are totally on board with doing whatever it takes to bring you to the US.

That had to be done as preparation for the interview, and was heavily reused when doing up the AOS packet.

In terms of paperwork, the AOS packet is the single largest bundle of papers you need to prepare. This piece is just a part of the whole AOS preparation phase.

DON'T PANIC

Teaching her to drive.

Oh, you mean teh VISA process? There are no hard parts. Fill out the forms, pay the fees and wait. What's hard?

I honestly can not wait to teach my baby how to drive. She is scared to.

From my experience, I can already tell you that for me the hardest part is waiting for the NOA2. I feel as if after that it will be smooth sailing. Being away from the person you love most in this world is one of the hardest things any human being will go through. I would never wish this upon anyone. Just keep your head up, stay in touch as much as you can and all will be ok. Remember, your fiance feels just like you do. Support eachother through the process and remember that everyday you are one day closer to being with the love of your life! Good luck everyone. When you really need some support or just need to vent... come here, we are always glad to help out.
