I'll agree with most people here: the waiting, when you can't be together, is the hardest part. The rest is paperwork, fees, and to organize everything. Read all the guides here, make questions when needed, you'll be fine.

The near-5-month wait for the NOA2 was the hardest part for me. Knowing you have no control on anything, and time ticking by whilst people ask you about it every day was a close second.

I'll refine the "waiting is hard to do"

Waiting isn't so hard, it's waiting without any idea of when it will END is the hardest part. If someone said that you'd be approved exactly 100 days from now, not one hour more or less, then it's a lot easier than if someone says that it could be anywhere from 30 to 180 days of waiting. It was the uncertainty and the inability to have control over our lives etc. which was the hardest part for us. Once Nik had the visa (in June) the time we waited for him to arrive (in October) went by much faster, and was a great deal easier to bear.

I'll be an outlier here, but the waiting wasn't actually that hard for us. I was teaching in a school in Canada at the time, so we made preparations while I was visiting in August, then I went back to Canada for the beginning of the school year in September. She filed the I-129F in October. It was approved in January. We knew I wasn't moving down until at least early July [though I did visit in December and March while it was processing], so the waiting was just what we were used to dealing with anyways.

[An interesting tradeoff in being a teacher - you get gobs of vacation time (sorely needed, BTW!), but NO flexibility whatsoever on when to use it.]

Hi everyone!

Me and my fiancé haven't filed the documents, we just started learning how the process is to get the k1 visa.

I have some questions for you guys that already have experience in the subject. What was the hardest part of the process?

Oh, and how was it to prove that you were together for at least 2 years? what kind of proofs did you show? my fiancé and I have been together for more than 4 years and I'm afraid i didn't keep the plane tickets proving that I boarded... :/

For us, the waiting is the most diffcult along with the gathering of information. Pictures, phone records, affadavits from friends or family that are close to you and your fiance, money transfers perhaps, emails, IM, all of these can be used as proof of relationship. Being together for 4 year you should have no problem proving your relationship. Call the airline company and ask if they can email you a confirmation of your itinerary.
