A group trying to register voters in Houston received threats and emails containing racist slurs after being targeted by a local tea party group accusing it of "voter fraud."

In emails obtained by TPM, the group Houston Votes was accused of being "a bunch of white guilt ridden as$holes, NIGGERS and greasy mexican spics," "fraudulent Marxist pigs," and "American hating A-holes."

"We received a couple of threats and several harassing e-mails," Maureen Haver of Houston Voters told TPMMuckraker. "There have been several efforts, I think, just trying to race-bait and stir racial tension and part of that I think is just based on what we've received in messaging from them."

"It's really had a chilling effect on our office," said Haver, adding that one of the e-mails was reported to the FBI.

Here are some of the e-mails, which Houston Votes provided to TPMMuckraker:

"i hope everyone of you American hating A-holes are thrown in prison for cheating our country and trying to assure socialism.GO TO HELL."

"I see you're all into fraud. Why do you want to change Texas? You want it to be like a third-world nation? Texas is great - and you want to change it into a third world state. No thank you. Your fraud won't work. You were caught red handed. Live with it. We know all about it."

"Citizen's from all over Texas will be coming to Houston to watch you fraudulent Marxist pigs. Be forewarned, you will be watched at every turn, and your corrupt Marxist organization will be targeted!"

"You liberial scumbags should be hung by the neck in public ! We are on to your voter fraud. Keep it up you MOTHER FUKCERS and you will soon be put down for a long dirt nap! Your nothing but a bunch of white guilt ridden as$holes, NIGGERS and greasy mexican spics! The WAR is comming and we are going to dispose of each and every one of you while we take OUR (White) nation back."

Houston Votes was targeted by the Texas Tea Party group King Street Patriots in their so-called anti-voter fraud effort "True The Vote." At one meeting, King Street Patriots leader Catherine Engelbrecht even went as far to as to accuse the group of being the headquarters of the New Black Panther Party.

Texas Democrats has since sued Leo Vasquez, the Republican Tax Assessor Collector for Harris County, after he held a press conference accusing the group of voter fraud based on KSP's claims -- a press conference that, in fact, featured members of the the King Street Patriots.

True The Vote also put together a video raising the threat of voter fraud which features soaring music. "Think it can't happen in your town? Think again!" reads one message. "Our elections are being manipulated. By the RADICAL LEFT," the video says.

The video originally featured a doctored photo of an African-American voter holding a poorly photoshopped sign -- featuring Comic Sans font -- that read "I only got to vote once." That part of the video has since been edited out.

The U.S. Justice Department is currently gathering information about alleged incidents of voter intimidation in Harris County, where the King Street Patriots is reportedly part of a broad GOP effort to recruit poll-watchers.

The fact that KSP proved voter registration fraud was going on means nothing to you, does it?

They proved it? Where's the indictment and, more importantly, the conviction. All I've read as of Oct 20 is that allegations to that end are being investigated. That's for from any such activities being proven. Remember all the proof tey had against ACORN which was all really nothing but a malicious fabrication. But hey, why bother with facts?

The 23,000-odd fraudulent registrations are not in contention. The investigation is ongoing into criminal intent and culpability. The facts are there, just don't let them get in the way of a good excuse.

Everyone Bush "stole" the 2000 election without any fraud proven over the last 10 years so we don't any facts on electoral fraud.

And when that investigation provides prosecutable results and a conviction, then it counts as proven. Until then, the presumption of innocence prevails. Or are we now just skipping the portion where allegations and suspicions have to be proven in a court of law?

Then you should pay heed to the OP, which neatly dovetails the alleged hatemail into the King Street Patriots and their "True The Vote" anti-fraud effort without the slightest substantiation whatsoever. Innocent until proven guilty? True The Vote aren't even implicated in the substance of the article, yet the author tries hard to make them out as the guilty party.

So please apply the same standards on both sides.

The only assertion made in my posts is that True The Vote uncovered over 23,000 fraudulent registrations, something which is not in question. Whether this is a result of deliberate fraud, overenthusiastic organisers, or some other cause is still under investigation. But True The Vote are now in the crosshairs for their efforts, and the OP is another in a line of smear efforts against them.

When standing up for the eradication of voting irregularity gets you villified, then there is something very wrong going on in this country.

Well yes, it is. The MO is not new - remember that the validity of the video clips that were used to bring ACORN to fall was not in question either. That is, until it was discovered that these clips were malicious fabrications. I don't take anything these groups say at face value anymore.

Take the claim of vacant lots having voters registered. Scanadlous. Fraudulent. Right? Well, unless of course the registrations happened a couple of eyars back when there were homes on these now vacant lots. You see, this superficial ####### gets you all excited. I rather ask questions as to the validity of the claims presented.

Well, no it's not. No-one is questioning that the 23,000 voter registrations are invalid, not even the person under the investigation spotlight. Finding excuses for that many invalid registrations, which are all for this electoral cycle, not the 2008 Presidential Election, by saying they might have been registered 2 years ago is being an apologist for fraud. If you have any hard evidence to back up these excuses, then post it. If not, quit trying to excuse a broken, misused and abused process.

The registrations are fraudulent, possibly maliciously so. Deal with it, just as the due process of law is dealing with it. Just as it is dealing with the 3,000 registrations in the Raul Grijalva case, from the same SEIU-affiliate source, that have also been ruled fraudulent. It's going on right now. And the American electoral process is taking a beating because of it.

But what appalls me here is that the group of people who helped uncover this fraud is being vilified. When those trying to make sure the law is being applied and making an effort to prevent electoral fraud and the subversion of the American electoral system are seen as the "bad guys" then there is something seriously wrong. That you are willing to find excuses for those committing the fraud, whether maliciously or otherwise, is shameful.

As for the lame assertion that this is superficial #######, think again. Come November 2nd, there are races where 500 votes could make the difference between a fairly elected representative and one whose mandate is obtained by fraud. Are you happy to see the wrong person in Washington this time around? If so, you deserved BushBaby in 2000.
