Can the co-sponsor for the i-134 be a beneficiary´s relative or does it have to be someone close or related to the sponsor?

Also, does ir have to live in the same state?

Thanks!

The co-sponsor just has to be over 18, a US citizen or a legal permanent resident, domiciled in the US or its territories, and have sufficient money.

Thanks for the soon response.

Then it is not preferable that the co-sponsor comes from the sponsor´s side?

It depends on the consulate. There are no firm rules for the I-134, so each consulate is allowed to use the discretion that the law gives them. Some consulates will almost never accept a co-sponsor for a K visa (Vietnam, for example). Some consulates will accept them only in certain circumstances. For example, the US Embassy in the Philippines usually won't accept a co-sponsor for a K visa, but they have been known to make an exception if the petitioner has a valid reason for having a low current income and a likelihood of improved income in the future (student or recent college grad, for example), and if the co-sponsor is a close relative of either the petitioner or the beneficiary (higher likelihood that the co-sponsor will sign an I-864 when the time comes).

Check the regional forum for Latin America and see what experience others have had.

Also, check the embassy reviews for the US Embassy in Argentina.

Most consulates will accept any co-sponsor who submits an I-134 if that co-sponsor would also be qualified to submit an I-864, which means any US citizen, national, or LPR domiciled in the US.

My co-sponsor is my brother in law. I live in Alabama and he lives in Montana. Your co-sponsor does not have to be related and does not have to live in the same city or state.

Good luck
