Port of Entry - Seattle

Hey folks,

I'm making plans to travel to the US close to Christmas this year, following my approval of my K1 visa last week. yay!!

I'll be coming in via Seattle and wondered if anyone had any information on what to expect. I need to arrange connecting flights from there to Alaska too so specifically, I'm interested in the time I will be held in Seattle and how difficult the process is. My 11 year old daughter will be with me so if it's a scary process, I want to prepare her as much as possible for it.

First of all, congratulations on the approval.

Second, I can't really speak to the process you will encounter in Seattle with regard to POE processing and entering on a K1. I'll leave that to other people who have been through the POE at SEA with a K1 to describe what takes place. What I can tell you is the layout of the airport if you are not already familiar with it. International flights arrive at a satellite terminal away from the main (specifically, the south satellite). Once you complete POE procedures and are clear of customs, you will have to go through security and then you can check-in for your flight to Alaska. Once you check-in for the Alaska flight, you will at least have to take one underground train ride, possibly even a second to the appropriate gate area.

Entering the US with a visa is usually a breeze. The worst part for your 11 year old would be having to wait quietly (after already sitting quietly on the extremely long plane ride!!) because they will take some time to process you through secondary and get your visa entry all worked out.

Do you have a direct flight in to SeaTac, if not that will not be your POE, I'm sure you've already done all your flight bookings, but I don't ever recall direct from the UK in to Seattle, then again it's been a long time since I flew out to Seattle.

Congratulations! It is sometime since i was at Seattle (2007). It was my POE on K1 too.

As I recall I travelled direct from Heathrow to Seattle via BA( not sure if they still do that route). The staff at Seattle seemed ok... it was pretty uneventful.

I ended up at another counter where the all important envelope as eventually opened - it was a painless process.

At the time Seattle was my stop and I never needed to make a connection elsewhere - so I am afraid I am not sure where you would go from there but staff there are usualy helpful.
