7+ years of waiting for green card

So my family and I has gotten the interview for green card and after 7 years still nothing. I tried going to check what is happening and they just said to wait. I came here legally and the interview went fine but it still isn't coming. I'm getting more worried because my daughter will now be applying for college and we are not that financially stable so we need scholarships and financial aid but to apply, we need a green card so my daughter's future isn't looking too great as of now. I would really like some help. I've visited several law offices and they all told me to just wait and I waited 7 years and I am just getting sick of it. I see others who came waaayyyy after me get it like right after they interview or get here. I can't think of any issues that is holding my green card from coming. They verified with me last year that everything was fine and that I needed to wait. This is getting ridiculous.

Edit: we have SSN also.

Contact your local congressman/senator and ask for assistance. 7 years?? No way I would wait that long :S

** moved from "Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from Family Based Visas" to General Immigration Related Discussion as this isn't a question about the AOS process specifically, more a general Immigration question **

Need more information...

Did you come here on a visitor or work visa, and now trying to adjust status? Or were you on a visa that is supposed to get a greencard on entry?

How long ago was the interview for your greencard? If 7 years ago as you seem to say, what have you done to enquire about it and when?

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

I came here as a visitor and then changed to student visa (I20) and applied for green card. That was in 2002. Interview was 2005 so I miscalculated there.

I went about a year ago to a local immigration department to ask and they said just wait. Nothing more and nothing less.

So are you still on the student visa? They don't normally lead to greencards, what is different in your case?

Also, which country are you from? Could it be your name came up on some watch list?

There is no path from a non-resident visa, such as a student visa, to becoming a resident. Unless you are married a USC and applied on the basis of being the spouse of a US citizen, you have no basis for AOS.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

245I look that up.

There is no reason I would be on a watch list.

We were eligible under 245i and it took us all the way to the interview for the green card but it just isn't coming. All they said is to wait and there was no error and I wasn't declined.

yes. I was actually here first then my family came.

I get what you guys are saying about not being able to get it with student visa but we got through this far but it isn't making any progress and it ISN'T declined.

Don't keep telling me that it isn't possible or explain why and how I got this far in the process. Keep saying that it doesn't make sense or telling me that it isn't possible isn't helping at all.

We are trying to help, but to do so, we need to understand exactly what is going on, and you didn't give enough info.

From what you write here, the only thing I can suggest is:

- Contact elected reps- all of them.

- maybe try a Writ of Mandamus

That probably is not the most effective approach to take when you are asking for help...

Wow that is a really long time to wait. I think you should definitely contact your congress office. They will be able to access more information as well as directly contact higher-ups in the immigration offices. My sister is currently going through a longer than normal wait for her CR-1 and the congress office is really helping her out.

Good luck!
