RFE for I-693 - sent to wrong address

Hi all -

First time poster here, so apologies if this subject has already come up.

My husband (fiance at the time) entered the USA on a K-1 visa in August. We submitted his AOS paperwork September 9, 2010. However, I noticed that that we failed to include my medical exam record, Form I-693, in the packet for the I-485. Since he'd already completed a full medical examination overseas in Egypt within the last 12 months (per K-1 visa requirements), we only filled out the necessary portions of the I-693.

Here's the problem: I noticed this issue before I got an RFE, so I submitted the paperwork to the Chicago Lockbox (where we'd sent the AOS paperwork) in order to avoid getting an RFE. Lo and behold, we still got an RFE.. and now it's telling us to send it somewhere other than the Chicago Lockbox! Our original copy is gone in the abyss of immigration paperwork (though we wrote a detailed cover letter attached to the I-693).

Should we get another set of paperwork done? Or should we send a copy? We're really worried this mishap could push the processing time much later!

Your advice is kindly appreciated.

It might be faster to get new medical and submit to the address contained in the RFE, but you might try calling once to USCIS customer service and see if the paperwork you sent in has caught up to it by now. .. not likely but may save you a few bucks.

although it's possible that the one you sent prior to the RFE notice would/could reach them eventually, it's always better to do whatever they're asking you to do, -send in another one. if you're ok with doing paper work again, that would be the best. if not, send in a copy and explain that you already sent in the original, chances are they'll accept it, and just ask for the original during the interview. the sooner you do this, the better. good luck and god bless =)

From what I've read on these forums, whenever you get an RFE, you have to make a color photocopy of that RFE, use it as the cover sheet, and send it to wherever it tells you to send it along with the evidence it asks for. The medical form has to be completed by a civil surgeon as far as I'm aware. I don't think the Chicago lockbox handles RFE submissions at all, so they probably destroyed what you sent them. Just follow what it says in the RFE and don't forget to send a copy of it with the evidence. Others, correct me if wrong!
