it is exactly as mari&ryan said. They will take you to a room most likely, where there may be few people, you will need to wait for they to call you to a window. the waiting time depends on how crowded the room is.

I was very nervous too, but the officers are very friendly but overall, they know how to do their job.

Have no worries if you are not doing anything wrong.

I guess your biggest concern should be your layover time. Mine was tight, and I had to run very fast to catch my next flight!!

Hey everyone

So I am just a few days away from leaving my home and flying to the USA. Now I am a little worried and nervous and mostly about my POE which will be Miami... I keep reading and hearing such a bad reviews about miamis Airport that I am really freaking out... so just wanted to ask for those who have gone through the miami POE... is it really that bad?... what should i expect?... is there any reason why someone could be sent back home? I heard Weekends are really busy so I picked a monday and I will be getting there around 10 pm... do u think it will be too busy? Ayudaaa

Also, check cbp.gov for wait times to clear through customs at airports.

Yes, I know Bahamas and Bermuda have agreements with the US and we have customs there before you board the plane, so when you land in USA you fly in as if it were domestic (fights within the USA). From South America, you will go through customs in Miami, your POE, fingerprints, asked some questions, etc, etc. In Miami they will always speak Spanish and you should not have any hassle. Good Luck!

Hi GJen,

You'll be going through customs in your native country, not in Miami. When you get to Miami, you're free to go. Whether you're from China, Congo or Holland, you cross customs in the country of departure, not in the U.S per say.

Don't worry about it, POEing is not that stressful, and if you're at that point, things will be just fine and dandy!

Good luck!

NOT CORRECT!!! "Vero and Chris" where do you get that kind of info.. Venezuela is not Canada...

GJEN, my fiancee will also POE in Miami, I often go through Miami often when I return from Colombia. They will likely follow their normal procedural stuff, but you should be fine..

Gjen there is US immigration in a lot of Canadian airports so everyone that boards the plane has already gone through immigration.

I've done that in Bermuda as well before a flight back to New York once.

The best way to find out is if the airport your leaving from has US immigration before boarding.

In any case if they do I guess it won't be Miami where you'll go through immigration.

Like I saw in an earlier post though you are coming in legally and the right way and have nothing to hide so any time they take to check into things will just be formality. You'll be fine either way.

Miami is probably the worst POE one woud ever go thru...actually rude. But you will be good to go.and have no problem.

\Even with a US Passport I hate going thru the place....although I did hear English spoken once.

You WILL pass thru Immigration and Customs

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

I live in Miami so I always come back through Miami...I never see anyone being hassled and I always get through with no problems. I have an American Passport, but I fly with and know many people with other country passports and they have no issues also. It's Business As Usual....they like to keep things moving. Yes, Miami is a melting pot so you will hear many languages.... a lot of the customs agents speak English, Spanish, and French. Have a safe flight!

I live in Miami and go through immigration a LOT.

I have NEVEr had any problems, neither with language (yes most IOs speak Spanish, but ALSO English) nor with being treated in a rude fashion.

everything was always fine, and much faster than, for example, in JFK (though that truly depends on time of arrival and how many other international flights have come in around that time.

for the preclearance locations, here is the official link to the list of all locations

Yes this is another example of people giving misinformation in the forums.

Rely on the guides, advice of Veteran members...

It is difficult to sort out the good info from the bad on this site at times.

That said VJ is still the best, just tedious at times weeding through everything.

Wow, sorry about being such a nuisance  I figured that most airports were the same, i.e. you go through customs in the native country...

Won't be doing THAT again!

Gosh, sorry sorry sorry!!! I must of mistaken Venezuela for a canadian province :P

I live in Miami and go through immigration a LOT.

My condolences.

All CBP agents speak English.

The rest is antedotal.........anyone coming into the US from Latin American knows how it is to pass thru Miami.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

My husband almost went through Miami as a POE. After reading reviews about the POE there we decided to go through Chicago instead, which seemed to be better. For what it's worth, my husband was extremely harassed going through Chicago. The officer he went through tried anything they could to turn down his K-1 and send him back. I wonder if going through Miami might have been better.
