How soon after wedding did you file I-130?

Just wondering how fast after your wedding did you file the paperwork .. and if it was immediately, did it cause any issues?

I really want to get all the paperwork completed and ready to go beforehand .. and then mail it all in as soon as I have the marriage certificate in my hand. I'm just afraid it might raise some skepticism in their eyes.

BUT, I do have lots to prove our relationship was strong before the wedding .. and plan on adding him to bank accounts, life insurance, etc. before the wedding anyways .. so maybe that will help us regardless?

Don't be afraid. The faster things get in the mail the faster you two are together. Just make sure the forms are filled out correctly and you enclose all that is required. I don't even think the ink was dry on our marriage certificate when it was in the mail. Good luck

First time, I filed immediately (6 weeks after the marriage - so immeidate is a relative term :-)) after the marriage. The reason - I was with her in India after the marriage and I came back to the U.S to complete my Naturalization. The next day, after naturalization, I mailed the I-130 package.

Otherwise, like everybody said, I would have filed it on the marriage day itself (assuming marriage certificate is with me!) That means visiting the marriage registrar office and post office before the first night :star:

We sent our paperwork in the day after the wedding. I went the next morning to our County Building and they gave me a certified certificate right away. I already had the rest of the paperwork ready to go, so I slipped in the certificate and mailed it off.

No problems at all! We got our NOA2 pretty quickly with no RFE.

We were married in Canada on June 18, 2010. We had to wait the two weeks to get a hard copy of our marriage certificate then sent the I-130 package in only to have it returned one week later saying we hadn't filled every line in with N/A. We resent the pkg in on Aug 18 and received our NOA1 a week later. We are now waiting for the NOA2 which apparently from the California Service Centre takes about 5 mos so we still have a little less than 4 mos to wait for that.

I'm in agreement with everyone else. :thumbs:

File as soon as you have your documents in hand. We had all of our forms ready to go and were able to get our marriage certificate the day we were married so our application went out ASAP. Good luck!

Point was if all the docs were available, I would have mailed it to the USCIS on the same day of the marriage.
