When shall I apply?

I received my temporary green card in May 2009. I keep panicking that I will forget to reapply to remove the conditions. I would like to apply the soonest I can to get that burden off my shoulders. When shall I apply?

Also I have moved ever since I received the green card. Is there something I should do? Am I supposed to get anything in the mail? I was just going to put our new address on the application, would that be sufficient? We also plan on moving to another state somewhere this spring or next Fall, not sure when, should I just wait till I get my 10yr green card in the mail before we move? I am not trying to complicate things...

The earliest that you can apply is 90 days (not the same as 3 months) prior to your card expiration.

Both the LPR and I-864 sponsor are required to send address changes to USCIS. The LPR can do it online with form AR-11. The sponsor must snail mail form I-865.

Do not count on mail from USCIS begin forwarded.

We sent ours in well after we moved (but prior to removing conditions) and there was no problem.

First thing, you need to change you address every time you move with USCIS - this is a MUST. Even if you are late to do so, go ahead and submit the address change for your sake.

Now, then mail topic is you can apply within 90 days of your third year anniversary, not one day earlier than that. Depending on which day your GC expires in May, then you will need to subtract 90 days.

For example:

if GC expires on May 1st, 2011 -- then you will be eligible to apply Jan 31st, 2011

May 2nd --> February 1st.

May 3rd --> February 2nd

...

...

...

In the meantime, are you collecting evidence and making sure all is on track? That's what you need to worry about!
