Hi everyone,

What could be used as 'another form of valid ID" as mentioned in #4 below? Appreciate your assistance? Currently, my fiancee has only her passport.

Regards,

1.

The SS-5 form you downloaded and filled out (they have some at the office if you forget).

2.

your Passport (with the K-1 Visa in it)

3.

your valid I-94

4.

another form of valid ID (as defined in the SS-5 instructions)

5.

You should also bring the document RM 00203.500 that you printed out

Even though it's attached to the inside of the passport, the K1 imprint itself, because it has it's own separate photo and was made by a different government than the passport, counts as a separate piece of government issued ID.

The social security imbeciles at my local office wouldn't accept that as a valid form of ID. They couldn't get it into their thick skulls that my passport was one form of ID issued by the British government and my K-1 visa was another ID issued by the US government. Ugh. Infuriates me just thinking about my local social security office. Anyway, they insisted I go home and get my birth certificate. Even though they couldn't make sense of it once they got it because it was hand-written and very "English" form and of course, isn't photo ID.

I had a very nice, and efficient clerk who amended honey's SS card to her married name.

What if you had a family member working for Soc. Sec. I don't think you would appreciate folks bashing them.

Thanks for being considerate to others. After all, we ARE only human.

Ooo Hopp, gotta disagree. If my family member was an imbecile I'd wanna know (probably already did :D). In fact i'll come right out and say it, my brother-in-law, half-sister, niece and little sister are morons. Imbeciles. Fruit-loops, nutters... yep. Definitely.

I think imbecile isn't really accurate, "lack in training", "doesn't know their own rules", "didn't have the presence of mind to ask a supervisor"... would be better... some people just don't take pride in their work though, and don't try and learn or work outside their little realm of "expertise".

I had no issues with mine when I did my K1 one but I sure was prepared with THEIR rules :P Still haven't gone back with my GC 'cause I'm scared. Here in Aus I changed my name but was still "miss Tony", I got THREE bankcards before they finally got it right :S...I showed my marriage cert.. how hard could it possibly be? Maybe a bad day but i still reserve the right to be ticked off :D

Lucky you. I'm very happy for you that you had a smooth process getting things sorted out at social security. But every social security staff member at my local office, that I was unfortunate enough to have to meet (and we're talking several of them) was a fool. So much so that I had to complain about them and received an apology. If you re-read my post you will see quite clearly that I mentioned my local office. I did not say all social security staff members are the same. Just my local office. And they are all imbeciles there, they are even managed by an imbecile. Hence the apology from somebody else, not located at my local office via email and phone.

And if anyone here has a family member working at my local office, then I sure hope they pass my words on to them. :innocent:

It's what I think of them. And if it took a 6-month long ordeal of dealing with them (like it was for me) then plenty of people would feel just the same way as me. I'm not sorry. Sorry. :) However, the person who called me from social security (who did not work at my local office) was very nice, and efficient. And I appreciated his help, greatly.
