Original copies during interview

Do the following have to be original copies when I bring them to my interview at the Embassy:

1. 2009 IRS Tax Return Transcript

2. most recent pay stubs of petitioner

3. I-797 Notice of Action of I-612 (waiver of foreign residence requirement of J1 visa)

All of these documents were issued from the USA. Items 1 and 2 are just print outs on plain paper with no signatures or distinct marks so I'm assuming a scanned copy of them would be just fine. Item 3 has a bar code so I'm assuming they only need to scan the barcode and search their database if they want to confirm its authenticity.

All original copies are in the US with my husband. I would like to know if any of you have ever been asked for the original copies of some of these documents during your interview so I will know if I need to have those docs snail mailed to me.

Originals are always the safe route. A tax form can't be original since the IRS has it so no choice but to have a copy of that (but a w-2 is original). It sounds like the documents that you are stating can be copies without a problem. However, if you have time to get the originals via snail mail, go for it. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck

We sent printouts from turbo tax instead of IRS transcripts and even that worked. Copies will be fine.

And for the pay stubs, we just sent copies aswell.
