Help RFE

As i have been complaining about no touches, A RFE showed up in a mail today, saying that the marriage certificate is unacceptable and to send one "that must indicate that after the marriage ceremony, it was registered or recorded by the county, state, or province". I had sent a copy of marriage certificate that was issued by Nepal government stating that we were married . anyone one experience this before and what to do?

When i check the Country Reciprocity Schedule for Nepal this is what it says..

"Marriage Certificates

Available. If the marriage is registered under the provisions of the Marriage Act (a very rare occurrence in Nepal), the Chief District Officer (CDO) will issue a marriage certificate. Even if a couple married long ago, a marriage certificate can be issued if three witnesses are presented. In cases where no formal registration of marriage occurred, the CDO or VDC issues a letter. The above effective dates concerning the issuance of birthl documents apply to the marriage certificates as well, and the marriages which occurred after these effective dates can be officially registered with the Local Registrar office. "

Not sure about Nepal. Did your certificate have official stamps/seal on it and has it been through all phases of 'registration?" My wife and I had a church wedding so our certificate first had to be certified by the Church and then it went through the government channel for registration.

Yes it has the official seal of municipality on official letterhead, with Executive officer's signature and stamp and there is a ref number and dispatch # on top left hand corner.

No all i have is the one issued by the municipality..saying we were married on so and so date and "the marriage of this couple has been completed according to the religious as well as social etiquette"

Do we need to mention that the marriage was registered and also provide the registration number on marriage certificate?

It was registered and there is a ref number on the marriage cert...instead of registration number it says ref number..

Is your and wife's name in full format with first and last name?

Is the marriage date is in English format not to confuse with MM/DD/YYYY format?

Probably, adding the full address of bride and groom will be a good idea.

Also, change the ref# to Registration# under the Marriage act of Nepal or whatsoever.

First contact USCIS customer service center and explain the situation.

If they say it is still not acceptable, get a detailed (with all the points I mentioned above) marriage certificate from your country and re-submit it.

You answered your question urself in your post...seems like you registred you marriage the same day you guys got married and they are making a big deal about this...I dont know what advice to give you...but I guess you should call Nepal to find out if they can issue the certificate for the different date after your marriage occured or call USCIS if they will accept explanation letter with some affidavits from yours and her family mebers as a secondry evidence...give it a shot...and good luck....!!!

Now it is more clear.

They want that particular sentence. I think, you should get a new marriage certificate. Change Ref# to Registration# too.

You answered your question urself in your post...seems like you registred you marriage the same day you guys got married and they are making a big deal about this...I dont know what advice to give you...but I guess you should call Nepal to find out if they can issue the certificate for the different date after your marriage occured or call USCIS if they will accept explanation letter with some affidavits from yours and her family mebers as a secondry evidence...give it a shot...and good luck....!!!

This is also a good idea.

Registering (civil) on the same day of the religious ceremony date is fine.

But check with USCIS, if affidavits or any secondary evidence is good enough too.

Thank you again, do you think if i try to call and explain they might help? or i have no choice but to get the new one?
