After you guys get married, the non-USC spouse has to apply for adjustment of status. This is when your non-USC spouse applies for a conditional green card (using the I-485, G-325A, I-864, and I-1693), employment authorization (I-765) and advanced parole (I-131, which allows your spouse to re-enter the U.S. should you decide to go on a trip/vacation outside the U.S. while the green card is still being processed.)

There is a separate set of guides for that, here's the link: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

Get acquainted with the forms and the supporting documents you need as early as now.

VJ also has a specific list of tips for K1 visa holders applying for adjustment of status: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1aos

Hope your K1 journey is a smooth one :)

Thanks for that. But I was really interested in the next step after the I-129F is submitted. I know I have to wait for an interview at the Embassy in London, but what should I prepare to take with me (forms, documents etc).

Thanks.

The next step is to have LOTS of patience and wait, wait, and then wait some more! Recently, petition approvals seem to have slowed down as compared to timelines of people who filed earlier this year. You can read the guidelines available in Visa Journey to understand the whole process, but you may have months of waiting before ANYTHING happens. In the mean time, make sure to continue to collect evidence of relationship (phone call and chat records, letters, money orders, etc.)

Best wishes!

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.

Hi, Congraulations! You will receive NOA1 after a week or 2, Then NOA2 (from 2 - 5 months) After That packet 3 & 4. Lately everyone seems to be delayed, things aren't going fast at all. So times are different for everyone at this point. Here is some info but your consulate will be different, you can find for yours here. Good Luck On Your Journey :)

Welcome to VJ!

In the next couple of days you will get you first notice of action, NOA1. With the receipt number on the NOA1 you will be able to set up an account on the USCIS website to track the progress of your petition. Be prepared for a long wait, running at about 4 months at the moment, before receiving approval, NOA2. During the wait it would be a good idea to get the Packet 3 forms, that you can do, ready for when the london Embassy requests them.

Most of what you need at the moment is patience.

I have a few resources for you - There is a bar at the top of the page it's blue with white text (I'm being descriptive because sometimes people have trouble finding it.....it starts out Home, Forums.... Make your screen as wide as you can because it wraps funny)

There are some really important links up there One is guides. Maybe you already found that one - Under the K-1 heading on the left hand column there's the K-1 flowchart. This will give you an overview of the time involved and the major steps.

Farther to the right is Wiki - put in UK, and you'll come up with a few pages. Your fellow members have put in a lot of time to get the information in there. There are links to other pages and forums and threads.

The next heading you should check out is Embassy Info on the line immediately below that. You'll look up the London, UK embassy and there's a whole bunch of useful information about contact info, the medical and most importantly, a LINK to the electronic Packet 3. This is the same web link that arrives in the mail when the embassy invites the petitioner to apply for the visa once the approved petition gets to London. There's information on the medical, a list of all the forms you need, and all the documents which need to be collected.

Lastly, to the right of embassy info is Reviews: Embassy/USCIS Click on the word Embassy and find the London, UK embassy in the drop down. There, you can read lots of other users' experiences at the embassy interview, and what sort of questions they were asked, and how they spent 100's of hours collecting relationship info which sat in their bag gathering dust since no one looked at it.

K-1:

January 28, 2009: NOA1

March 27, 2010: Green Card recieved

ROC:
