Biometrics, RFE and service request

Hello all, a while after getting my receipt notice, my online status changed to RFE (Request for Evidence). A few days after that I received biometrics letter. Weeks after completing my fingerprints, my online status hasn't changed. I called USCIS customer service number and they said that they will start a "service request" to see whether the biometrics letter was what the online RFE status was refering to. He said I should hear back within 30 days. Does anyone know what a "service request" does.

Can initiating such service request cause any delay to the processing of the application? or cause them to re-send me biometrics letter? your input is appreciated.

Hi,

The RFE online is for biometrics. The status online may not necessarily reflect your actual status as it is not up to date on what is going on regarding your case. A service request will inquire about your file and they will probably 2 weeks later contact you back and tell you that your application is at your local district office and you will be contacted by them for your interview when they reach your application. I don't think the service request will affect or delay your application.

HTH.

I was in the same boat as you, and I had read that for the n400 most of the RFE's are the biometrics appointment. Even though some people do get white or yellow forms saying they need to bring certain documents to their interviews but that depends on case to case though. Even though I knew that it was the biometrics letter, I still openend a service request just to be sure. Today I received a notice saying that the status of me service request is:

The biometrics appt. was mailed a certain date . The appt. was for certain date at 11:00 am. Hopefully it was received on time, if you did not receive the notice on time please advice USCIS to reschedule.

So this just explained that it is the actual biometrics appt.!!! Good Luck So does everyone who opens a service request get this same letter?

They don't review citizenship applications in any detail for attachments until the time of the actual interview (since they know there will always be an interview) so they don't send out RFEs. If the cheque isn't right, they send back the whole package - if anything else isn't right, you will find out at the interview. The RFE statement is for the biometrics.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

You need to develop some patience. Don't look for status updates every day. If you have done your biometrics, you'll need to chill for about 2 to 4 weeks until you'll get your interview letter. Think in weeks and months, not hours and days when it comes to USCIS.

Edited by Just Bob

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I agree... but it is very frustrating to see that some people that have filed later and have to go to the same local USCIS office are being handled before me. I can see no logic in that. It's not that I have anything special going on. I'm just a regular guy with no history or problems.

Hard to follow sometimes.
