Kanyiri Thanks for all of the GREAT info on what to expect at the centre. I will be keeping all of these tips in mind. I've heard alot about the increase in prices for Americans. Let's hope I have some good bargaining skills deep down. Lol. Thanks again...very useful!

blah0323 I definately agree. That is the ONLY positive thing that I can say about the wait. I've never been in a serious long distance relationship like this and the wait is definately making us appreciate each other. I've been in past relationships where we weren't long distance and the bond/connection that I had with them doesn't nearly compare to the bond I have with my fiance. You get a chance to know the other person much better through deep conversations while waiting. On the other hand, the waiting is very stressful and I've been feeling kind of moody lately. :crying: I'm just ready to get there and see my baby already.

Shaun,

I agree with you, a long distance relationship does seem to make the bond stronger. I know how hard it is to wait to see your baby. I'm going insane waiting for our interview. We keep hoping that Wilmot will be here before the end of September. I can totally agree with the moody part. The week before we received our NOA 2, I thought I was going to loose it. It is a hard and long process, but like everyone else has said, it is worth it when you have your baby here in your arms. We often joke about the process and what crazy comments people say about our relationship, to help us with the stress. It gets really frustrating to hear comments about him just wanting to come to the US, blah, blah.... But as he always tells me, time will tell, better than any words he can say.

This is my first and only long distance relationship.. . .it is something I would have never thought that I would be involved in. It has been diffciult but it is really nice to have the time to talk and get to know each other. He always tells me that this is our time to get to know each other, because once he gets here, we will not have this much time.

Enough about me, it is great to have you on VJ.

wileastmot, so have you not gotten an interview yet?

We often joke about the process and what crazy comments people say about our relationship, to help us with the stress. It gets really frustrating to hear comments about him just wanting to come to the US, blah, blah.... But as he always tells me, time will tell, better than any words he can say.

Ooooh, that is so frustrating. We both face unwanted comments. Luckily, our familys are very supportive of us. There is a cafe that he goes to to use the internet. Unfortunately, because of the war there aren't many cafes set up yet and this is the only one that is near his home. There are 3 guys that run it and they were very nice to him until they realized he was coming everyday for hours to spend his time talking to an American girl. After they found out all hell broke loose. Now he goes there and after 30 mins they make up excuses for why he has to leave. "I have to close early for graduation tomorrow...I'm celebrating a birthday tonight so you must leave...the generator is broken, get out!" its always some new issue. Finally, he confronted them and asked them what the deal was and they flat out told him that they dont like him wasting his time with some imaginary girl who is only playing with his heart and will forget about him.:huh::o Hello?! he pays money to be there so why butt into his business and who he's talking to??? Ever since then they have been charging him 3x the normal amount to come online. I will do anything to keep communicating with him which means more money and time out of our lives to go and get phone cards everyday to replace the time we lose online. Then there are the comments from "friends" who laugh and think this whole idea is just silly. We both decided that all of these extra people are gonna end up stressing us out and getting the best of us. Now, we dont talk about it and we dont listen to them.

This is my first and only long distance relationship.. . .it is something I would have never thought that I would be involved in. It has been diffciult but it is really nice to have the time to talk and get to know each other. He always tells me that this is our time to get to know each other, because once he gets here, we will not have this much time.

I never would have imagined it either. it is difficult, but I actually feel kind of lucky to be able to be with someone and get to know them so well. It also lets me know that if we can survive this huge challenge then we can pretty much face any other challenges. Thanks for having me here!

Shaun,

That is so frustrating to hear about how they are treating him at the internet cafe. To bad there isn't another place he could go to spend his money. I hope you have a good weekend. I'm very excited because I'm helping host a party for a close friend. Her family is who introduced me to Wilmot, they knew me and him and tried to get us to meet. I refused for a month because I thought it would be a bad idea. But they kept telling me that I and I had the same dreams and would make a great couple. Finally, I gave in and now can't believe how happy I am. It will be really fun to celebrate her birthday this weekend, Liberian parties are really fun and today a couple of us are going to cook Liberian food for the party.

We haven't received packet 4 yet, so no date for our interview. I'm keeping hope alive that the interview will be sometime in September. I'm glad to have you at VJ, It is nice to have someone else who is with someone from Liberia. Where does your finance live? Wilmot's brother lives in Moravia, I talk to him and his family every other week. I can't wait to meet him, he is hopefully going to be able to come to our Wedding in November. (if we have the interview in Sept.)

This is getting longer then I thought, have a nice weekend!

Yeah, he is too patient and calm. He just politely ignores them and suffers through their comments and stupid excuses. Me, on the other hand, I'm like "baby, pass them that phone right now so I can tell them what I think about them and their bs excuses!"

I loved your matchmaking story. How cute! I guess they knew what was best for the both of you. Very glad to see it working out. Hmmm, what kind of Liberian food are you all going to be cooking? I've tasted a few of their foods (my ex was Liberian, also) and they were pretty good. I really liked the palm butter soup and groundnut stew. I've never been to a Liberian party but I've heard ALOT about them, lol. Yeah, it is nice to see someone else with a Liberian since you dont run across it that often. He lives in Monrovia...Bushrod Island, to be exact. His family and I talk about once a week. Have fun at the party!! Come back and give details, lol.

Shaun,

I will give you a details on Monday. I love Liberian food! I'm glad you get to talk to his family. I love when we call his family and talk to them. They are all so supportive, his brother calls to check on me and my children. I have been waiting for a very long time to have a husband and in-laws. Feels so great to have them in our lives. I'm so happy to be marrying someone who is so loving and caring. It is an added bonus that his family is so helpful. His brother paid a lot of money and worked very hard to get Wilmot a passport, because of his refugee status his passport had expired and we were having a hard time figuring out how to get his passport renewed. His brother was able to make something happen, I think it helps because he works for a government office in Liberia. No matter I'm very thankful.

I like palmbutter too, but I really like Casava, chicken gravy, and pepper soup. I have to get to work, so have a nice day.

Ditto to that statement! My last marriage was ugh...let's just say that statement DIDNT apply at all. So it does feel really good to have inlaws that care. How old are your children? I have two little girls ages 4 & 2. I havent had the casava. Heard that was good, also. Have a great day at work. I need to be working, also. Looks like my addiction to this board is preventing that. Haha!

Yes, being on this website has made me loose many hours of work and sleep. Especially when I was waiting for the noa 2. I have a 9 year old daughter and a 14 year old son. I can't believe they are as old as that. I feel like it was only a a couple of years that I had them. But being the age they are, will mean they will be a great older brother and sister to their future or brother and sister that we hope to be blessed with in the next year.

When do you move back to Texas? It will be nice to be away from the midwest's horrible winters! :P

Take care, Rhonda

Welcome! :)

I don't read or post much here anymore... (Or anywhere else for that matter. If your journey ends up being as long and outdrawn as some of ours has been, you would definitely understand why. By the time you are reunited with your S.O. you are more than ready to pass the baton to someone else, and let them continue running the VisaJourney race, while you get on with your new life! ) There is a always a constant influx of newbies, and outflux of veterans around here.

We have some pretty interesting, as well as informative archived posts, (dating back to Feb. 2004 I believe)

I do periodically stop by to read my PM's. If you have any questions feel free to hollaaaaa! :D

Hello everyone! My name is Shaun and (unfortunately) I'm living in Bloomington, IN...soon to be Houston, TX. I met my boyfriend online in April. I placed an ad to a penpal website hoping to make new friends in Ghana since I am going in May of 2007 and my now fiance, from Liberia  , answered the ad to become friends. Long story short, we have fallen madly in love and have decided that we are THE ONES for each other. (L) I've been lurking on this site for a little more than a month now after coming across it while searching for K-1 visa information. The site is great and I love coming everyday to read, so why not jump in? All of you ladies seem wonderful and I can't wait to get to know everyone.

oh yeah, by the way, we haven't filed yet. We will be doing that after I visit him for the first time this November.

Welcome. VJ is a great place to be before filing! Congratulations on your engagement.

Also and early welcome to Houston. Maybe our summer heat will be gone before you move down?

PS

I was in Ghana the summer of 2004. I think you will love it.
