This may have been posted before but this was released yesterday from the local OPP detachment:

NEW POLICIES INVOLVING CRIMINAL

RECORDS CHECKS NOW IN PLACE

(Nottawasaga OPP, ON) - For many years, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachments have processed requests for criminal records checks that are used for employment and volunteer positions. In addition, some citizens require a vulnerable sector check when they work or volunteer in a position that involves being in direct contact with children or vulnerable persons.

In the past, these checks would take approximately one week to complete and the results were returned to the applicant.

Recently, changes have been implemented which will make this process much longer. For some, the changes may require the applicant to submit fingerprints to be sent to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) which may make the entire process take approximately 120 days (four months) for the results to return.

Persons who may work or volunteer in the community are asked to keep this in mind as they plan their community involvement and participation accordingly.

Your patience in accordance with the potential increase in the time period to have these criminal record checks processed will be appreciated.
